FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kansas City, MO – A solo exhibition of recent work by ceramic sculptor Sean Erwin, is a surrealistic look at the complexity of the human condition.

Inspired by the effects of personal possessions on human behavior, Erwin composes sculptural narratives around concepts such as identity, sexuality, spirituality, beauty, and mortality. His juxtaposition of toys, heads, and mechanical parts challenges viewers to consider alternative perspectives. His work questions the validity of behavioral expectations prescribed by social norms and employs humor in an attempt to reinvent these expectations within the timeless medium of ceramic sculpture.

Sean Erwin was selected for this solo exhibition from CERAMIC TOP 40 | 2013, an exhibition of emerging and established artists breaking new ground in conceptual, utilitarian and sculptural ceramics. The exhibition was presented at Red Star Studios in late 2013 and curated by Leslie Ferrin, Director of Ferrin Contemporary. CERAMIC TOP 40 has since traveled to Gallery 224 at Harvard University.
