Kansas City, MO - Lauren Mabry’s newest exhibition of painterly sculptures highlights passages in surface, sculptures, color, and composition. From rivulets of lustrous glaze to gritty, crackled marks, lush-colored surfaces to peeling paint, her work also reflects the passages found in her artistic and technical risk-taking.

Mabry conducts a one-day, workshop on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 10am to 4pm, followed by a free slide lecture at 4:30pm. For more information or to register for the workshop, call 816-474-7316 or visit www.redstarstudios.org.

Artist Biography:
Originally from Madison, WI, Lauren Mabry currently lives and works as a studio artist in Philadelphia, PA, where’s she’s a long-term resident at The Clay Studio. She received her BFA in ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2007 and her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2012. She's also studied in Kecskemét, Hungary at the International Ceramics Studio. Mabry’s work is included in permanent collections such as the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (Overland Park, KS) and The Sheldon Museum of Art (Lincoln, NE). Her exhibitions include national and international venues such as The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and The Clay Studio of Philadelphia.

Red Star Studios, a mainstay in Kansas City's ceramics scene since 1998, features a functional and sculptural ceramics gallery, classes, workshops, and artist studios. The Gallery showcases work by emerging and established regional, national and international artists. Classes and workshops are available for all skill levels. The Studio is also home to a renowned Artist-in-Residence program. This exhibition takes place at Belger Crane Yard Gallery, located between the East Crossroads and Kansas City’s 18th & Vine District at 2011 Tracy Ave. Exhibitions are also scheduled at Belger Arts Center, located in the Crossroads Arts District at 2100 Walnut St. For more information please contact Michael Baxley, Gallery Manager, mbaxley@redstarstudios.org or 816-474-7316.
