FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kansas City, MO – The Belger Glass Annex, Kansas City’s first public glass blowing studio of its size and scope, is pleased to present Visiting Artist: Gabe Feenan. Feenan’s visiting artist residency includes the following programs at the Belger Glass Annex:

  • A free artist talk on Thursday, October 6, 6pm - 7pm;

  • A free first Friday glass blowing demonstration on Friday, October 7, 6pm - 8pm; and

  • A three-day intensive glass blowing workshop, Saturday, October 8 - Monday, October 10 (registration required).  This is a unique opportunity, as Feenan rarely gives workshops

Gabe Feenan is known around the world for his craftsmanship and technical ability in the hotshop. He has been a resident gaffer at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA since 2002, and has worked with countless glass artists to actualize their creative and conceptual visions. Feenan’s own artworks are distinct for their technically challenging compositions and elegant sculptural stacks of bold geometric forms and rich color.

Feenan’s glass blowing demonstration and artist talk will cover themes and techniques unique to his work. Feenan’s three-day, hands-on workshop will focus on traditional and non-traditional hotshop techniques, including encalmo, cane work, and murrini. Workshop participants will learn how to plan projects to maximize efficiency in time and materials, plus get tips and tricks for working with scale and color. All programs will take place at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 East 19 th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108).

About Belger Arts:

Since 2000, the Belger Arts Center has encouraged viewers to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of art and of the world around them. Drawing upon the extensive John and Maxine Belger Family Foundation collection as well as a rich variety of local, national, and international artists, the Belger Arts Center has staged over 70 large-scale exhibitions that represent some of the best in contemporary art.

In 2013, Belger Arts expanded the Foundation’s commitment to the creative process by opening Belger Crane Yard Studios, an arts complex dedicated to providing studio and exhibition space for artists. A range of programming in ceramics education, in addition to the Red Star Residency program and Crane Yard Clay ceramics supply store, has made Belger a center for contemporary art.

The Belger Glass Annex is the third Belger Arts location and opened to the public in October 2021. It is the first public glass blowing studio in Kansas City of its scale and scope. The new facility boasts state-of-the-art glass blowing equipment and tools, a furnace that holds 300 pounds of molten glass, and three work stations. The Belger Glass Annex is primed to be a Midwest hub for glass art, education, and appreciation, strengthening Kansas City’s reputation as an arts destination.
