New Spring Ceramics Classes

Ceramic "wall pocket" by Bekah Bliss.

Spring has sprung at Belger Crane Yard Studios with favorites like hand-building, wheel throwing, mold making, and more!  We also have new classes like “Form and Function: Wall Pockets” with Bekah Bliss. Using wheel, altering, and hand-building techniques, Bekah demonstratehow to take an idea from sketch to finished vessel. Each student decides what form to create and receives guidance on how to approach technique. This class does not focus on glaze finishing, but students can receive feedback about best options.

Three-Day Glassblowing Workshop - May 27 through 29

An example of Robert Flowers’ cane work.

Take your glassblowing skills to the next level with three-day “Introduction to Cane” workshop taught by Robert Flowers May 27 through 29

Pulling cane is a technique often used in glassblowing to create patterns and designs in the appearance of the glass. This technique was invented over 2,000 years ago in Italy and perfected on the island of Murano. When making cane, glass is pulled into long glass rods (cane) then cut into smaller bits that are used to add patterns to the glass, often stripes or twists.

In this workshop, you will learn the steps to setting up a successful cane pull: How to properly heat and shape the glass, add color(s), and create intricate patterns within your cane. A variety of different cane styles (including straight cased cane, veiled cane, flat cane, twisted cane), application techniques, and how to incorporate cane into your work will also be covered.
