Take your glassblowing skills to the next level with a three-day “Introduction to Cane” workshop taught by Robert Flowers May 27 through 29. Pulling cane is a technique often used in glassblowing to create patterns and designs in the appearance of the glass. This technique was invented over 2,000 years ago in Italy and perfected on the island of Murano. When making cane, glass is pulled into long glass rods (cane) then cut into smaller bits that are used to add patterns to the glass, often stripes or twists. In this workshop, you will learn the steps to setting up a successful cane pull: How to properly heat and shape the glass, add color(s), and create intricate patterns within your cane. A variety of different cane styles (including straight cased cane, veiled cane, flat cane, twisted cane), application techniques, and how to incorporate cane into your work will also be covered. |
