Artists Beth Cavener, Peregrine Honig, Jenny Kindler, Lindsay Pichaske, and Merrie Wright utilize animal forms to mirror human psychology or to serve as metaphors for social, political, or environmental issues. Just as Cavener suggests that primitive animal instincts "lurk in our depths, waiting to slide past a conscious moment," Objectify aims to rekindle feelings of interconnection and wonderment.

Decorating with decals was once a highly technical process, invented and perfected by the ceramics industry. In the late 19th century, decals became a widely popular commodity, easily accessible to professionals and hobbyists alike. Decalcomaniacs celebrates this tradition and explores how 14 artists incorporate ready-made and custom imagery through a variety of processes and applications.

Featured artists: Brian Boldon, Jeremy R. Brooks, Pattie Chalmers, Rain Harris, Wesley Harvey, Meredith Host, Jeremy Kane, Robert Lorenz, Melissa Mencini, Mariko Paterson, Nathan Prouty, Justin Rothshank, Erik Scollon and Colleen Toledano.

From 1968 to 2001, Kansas City Art Institute professor Victor Babu inspired students through his unique views of art and philosophy and his sheer technical virtuosity. The Kansas City Connection pays homage to Babu by featuring work by three former students: Chris Gustin, John Balistreri, and Matt Long.

Celebrating the art of mentoring, the Morean Arts Center and Florida ArtCraft invited 17 artists to select one person who mentored them and one person they've mentored themselves. The resulting exhibition demonstrates the power and importance of influence, inspiration, and trusted advice.

Join us for A Legacy of Making, a special two-day demonstration workshop featuring Kansas City Art Institute alumni John Balistreri, Chris Gustin, and Matt Long. You won't want to miss this opportunity to learn from each artist at work, observing the techniques and skills that have helped define a new legacy of making. Free public lectures at 4:30 each day.
