Meet Glass Artist Hoseok Youn

Belger Arts is pleased to welcome Hoseok Youn to the Belger Glass Annex team!

Since he arrived in September, he’s taught classes and participated in glassblowing demonstrations and events at the Belger Glass Annex. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, he earned a BFA in glass and ceramics from Namseoul University in South Korea, and an MFA in glass from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He also studied at Pilchuck Glass School in 2018. Most recently he was a studio artist at the Toledo Museum of Art.

Hoseok has received scholarships from the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, NY), the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, Pittsburgh Glass Center (Pittsburgh, PA), and Namseoul University (Cheon Ahn, South Korea), among others. He has exhibited internationally, and his work has received many awards.

Hoseok has a passion for glass education and will be teaching Glass 1 and Glass 2 and monthly Make Your Own events. We are thrilled that he’s in Kansas City to share his skills and expertise with a growing glass community!

October Mug of the Month artist Caroline Meek is a queer poet and potter from Kansas City, KS who views her practice as “cathartic and perspective-shifting." Her mugs are available online and in the gallery through October 31.  Learn more about her by visiting her artist page.

November Mug of the Month featured artist is Belger Crane Yard Studios resident artist Cindy Leung. Her mugs will be available online and in the gallery starting Friday, November 4 at 10:00 am CST. Learn more about Cindy by visiting our Artists In Residence page.

You can purchase a Mug of the Month even if you don't have a subscription. This means you can buy a mug by an artist you love when they become available. However, having a Mug of the Month subscription reserves your spot to receive a new mug before they are offered for sale to the public.

Digital Debut Artist Mathew Meunier originally trained as a carpenter.  He comes from a long line of skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. A chance encounter with a handmade pot in a friend's kitchen led him to the pottery studio and to a new way of working with his hands. Using small-batch earthenware clay, simple glaze ingredients, and a soda kiln, he creates pottery that he describes as “honest and human.” Meunier's work is available online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave., KCMO) through October 31.
