Subject: Meet Cole Kennedy + New Work by Muriel Hansen and Annie Honn

Introducing Cole Kennedy

Belger Arts is pleased to welcome Belger Glass Annex Studio Assistant and Equipment Technician Cole Kennedy to the team!

Cole is from Overland Park, KS. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emporia State University with concentrations in glass forming, sculpture, and printmaking. For the past several years he’s worked at Monarch Glass Studio in Kansas City, MO. Along with his glassblowing skills, Cole brings technical expertise to the Belger Glass Annex, where he will be responsible for equipment maintenance and repairs and for heading up glass fabrication projects

Cole's artwork is inspired by nature and often mixes glass with other found and recycled materials. He’s participated in local art fairs and exhibitions. His work, S.S. Preserver, was included in the Heartland 5 exhibition at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery last spring. Welcome aboard Cole!

Digital Debut Artist Muriel Hansen

Muriel Hansen is our current Digital Debut artist! Originally from Milwaukee, WI, they received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2019. Often referencing textures and forms found in nature, Hansen uses simple, pleasing patterns and motifs to convey a sense of comfort and wanderlust. Through their work, they seek to inspire contemplation and enrich lives. Hansen's work is on view and available for purchase online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through August 31.

Mug of the Month Artist Annie Honn

Annie Honn creates functional glass to beautify and elevate the quality of everyday life--a special mug to return to at the end of the day, a decanter set used when guests visit, or a bowl for sharing snacks with a loved one. Her mugs are available online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through July 31.

Annie is a formally trained glass blower who received her Bachelors of the Fine Arts from Emporia State University in 2020.  She’s currently an independent artist who creates commission-based work. She’s previously exhibited her work in Heartland 4 (pictured above) and Holidays at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery.

Purchase a Mug of the Month even if you don't have a subscription! This means you can buy a mug by an artist you love when they become available. However, having a monthly subscription reserves your spot to receive a new mug every month before they’re made available to the public.

Milestones: Belger Arts’ Tenth Annual Resident Artist Exhibition includes work by 2022-2023 resident artists Cindy LeungSun Young Park, Gina PistoAdams Puryear, Meredith Smith, and Nicole Woodard. Mark your calendars for first Friday, August 4 (6:30pm) when artists Sun Young Park and Gina Pisto will give remarks about their work at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery.

The exhibition commemorates a significant milestone: the tenth year of its Artists in Residence program. The program originated at Red Star Studios, a long-time Kansas City ceramics gallery and studio. After its closing, the program found a permanent home in May 2013 when Belger Crane Yard Studios opened. Belger Crane Yard Studios continues to host national and international artists through the program, providing ceramic artists the opportunity to expand their body of work or create a special project that may be outside of the scope of their routine studio practice. The group exhibition, with its range of styles, themes, and techniques, also marks a milestone for the six artists, as it is the culmination of their time in the residency program. The exhibition runs through September 2, 2023.
