Many of Momoko Usami’s ceramic artworks are interactive, inviting the viewer to scroll, slide, or open them to reveal a new aspect or perspective. She states, “My role as an artist is to enrich a person’s everyday life by being able to touch and feel my work, and by discovering fresh views through it.”

Usami received a BFA and MFA from Kyoto City University of Art in Kyoto, Japan. She currently works out of her personal studio in rural Missouri near Kansas City where she teaches small art classes for the community.

Usami’s work is available for purchase online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through September 28, 2024.

 Introducing Emily Potter

Belger Arts is pleased to welcome Belger Glass Annex assistant glassblower Emily Clair Potter!

Potter started working with glass in 2018 and has received accolades including a research grant through Bowling Green State University, her alma mater in which she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Growing up surrounded by the cornfields of Northwest Ohio has given Potter an avid love for vegetables and other plant specimens. The repetition of organic shapes has influenced her investigation of intimate connections between the shared cellular architecture of beings.

Catch Emily Potter in action at our next First Friday glassblowing demonstration on September 6 from 6 to 8 pm at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 E. 19th St., KCMO).
