Introduction to Mold Making + More New Classes

Try Introduction to Mold Making with Joseph Hutchins! This six-week class provides an introduction to plaster as a material for making molds to cast multiple objects. We’ll focus on creating a simple one- or two-part mold with precision and functionality in mind. Casting slip will be used in the final week to create your objects.

Glass Classes in 2023

Learn to blow glass in the new year! Glass 1 provides a strong foundation in the basics of glassblowing. Learn how to gather molten glass, how to add a bubble into the glass, and how to mold and shape glass using traditional tools and techniques. Once you complete s Glass 1 you can advance to Glass 2.

Spots are still available in the evening Glass 1 class starting Wednesday, January 18 and in the weekend class happening Saturday and Sunday, January 28 - 29.

Intro to Goblet Making Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of goblet making with Hoseok Youn, Friday, February 3 - Sunday, February 5.


In this three-day workshop, Hoseok will introduce the basic techniques and designs of traditional Venetian goblets and stemware. You will work with clear glass and use specialty equipment such as the garage, hot-torch, and optic molds to make footed stemware. The focus of this workshop is to build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of goblet making with an emphasis on learning traditional processes. Glass 2 or equivalent required.

Rob Stern Glassblowing Workshop

Learn from master glassblower and Visiting Artist Rob Stern, Thursday, March 2 - Sunday, March 5. You may remember Rob from the third season of Netflix's "Blown Away" series. Rob's workshop,  "Finding Your Way" will take students on a deep dive into the process of creating glass sculpture. With daily project-specific demos and one-on-one instruction, students will design, develop, and expedite personal projects taking their glassblowing skills to the next level. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to work with a master glassblower! Glass 2 or equivalent is required.


In addition to Rob’s four-day workshop, he will give a free artist talk (March 2) and first Friday glassblowing demo (March 3), so please save these dates.

Monthly Glassmaking Experiences

Register for one (or more) of our monthly Make Your Own experiences at the Belger Glass Annex! Work with professional glassblowers to add color and shape to your seasonal creation. Your finished masterpiece will be ready for pick up in one week. Spots fill up quickly, so sign up today!

Want to come and experience clay for the first time or brush up on your wheel throwing skills? Try one of our weekend Date Night Pottery Class at the Belger Arts Center (2100 Walnut, KCMO)Enjoy a creative night in the Crossroads! Whether you bring your sweetheart, friend or family member, learn to throw on the potter's wheel and decorate your pots. We'll fire and glaze them. Your finished work can be picked up one month after class. Date Night happens every Friday and Saturday! Classes sell out quickly, so don't delay!
