"Bees bunch and hang outside the entrance"

Bees Doing #1: Bearding is asked about often by beekeepers of all experience levels. They hang outside or under the the hive.

Bees Doing #2: Grouped together on the front of the hive.

Bees Doing #3: Overheating and over populated in the hive.

Why: Why you have to Act?

Issue #1: Bees are pumping right now!

Issue #2: They are generating 2000 new bees a day and need space to provide them living area and operation space - space for new eggs and for nectar being brought back

{Spare supers and brood frames are optimum}

Issue #3: Help your bees feel they have enough space

{Regular checking on supers for harvesting is paramount}

#Action Plan: How to Act

{Colonies are in FULL Expansion Mode - Southern Hemisphere}

Action #1: Having bees during the peak nectar flow {spring + summer} requires regular inspections; both internal and external checking of the brood and super chambers.

Action #2: Swarming is a natural process. Our philosophy about beekeeping is we are wards of a natural living entity. Controlling the natural instinct of the hive seems counter-intuitive. {Bees will swarm. Let them bee.}

Action #3: Practice Best Brood and Super Management

  1. Ensure you have spare super chambers or frames to swap out

  2. Ensure you swap out old comb brood frames with starter frames

  3. Cover your hives with shade cloth to not exceed 36 Celsius

  4. Check for splitting queen cells

  5. Provide catch boxes to split your colonies with

Success Stories From the Swarm Catcher

"With these tools and tips, I have regularly been able to place 20 catch boxes on a site, matching the resources above and in the start beekeeping academy, and filled up to 16 boxes within 7-10 days with new swarms to manage and do bee farming."
