Hey Friend,
Asbjörn polarizes people; they either love or hate him. Over the last year, I’ve gotten to know him pretty well and confess that I have come to love him.
Both of us are obsessed with our work, obsessed with magick, and it seems that neither of us can manage keeping quiet about our thoughts, feelings, and philosophies on the subject. Our mutual obsession has pushed us to hash out the details in countless podcasts and interviews, which have allowed some very interesting insights into Asbjorn’s ideas and magickal approach.
For a time, Asbjorn lived only a few hours drive from me, and we made sure to take advantage of this and have spent some time together in person. We’ve sat across the table and talked for hours, face-to-face.
I knelt with Asbjorn at my stone altar, dedicated to Odin, Freyja, and Loki, and he and I approached the gods together, channelling their blessings and sharing a horn of mead with the many gods and spirits of the Viking pantheon.
Asbjorn and I walked together out into the desert, we formed a circle of stones, and together we called upon Loki and have offered our lives to him, so that that Devil-God could rearrange the details of it in order to spur us further in our Ascent.
But, before I ever met Asbjorn Torvol, before I had ever even heard his name, I received a manuscript that I knew was going to change the way that Norse Magick is approached, studied, and practiced.
This manuscript, which I received over a year ago, has been edited and revised, has been added to, and has been fleshed out, and will finally be released on March 5th as The Heathen: A Viking Grimoire of Norse Sorcery.

I’ve been working in the Norse systems of magick since I was about 16 years old. At the time of this writing, I am now 36. So, for 20 years now I have chased down every piece of information I could get my hands on concerning Viking sorcery, Norse mythology, and Heathen magick.
While I have to admit that I’ve read some good books on the subject, after reading enough of them it becomes painfully obvious that just about everything out there is a regurgitation of the same runic associations, often woven into New Age ceremonial practices borrowed more from Crowley than from any traditional sources.
On the other end of the spectrum were texts dealing with the theory of the myths and the symbols: armchair philosophies without any discernible practical application.

When I read through Asbjorn Torvol’s rough-draft manuscript, I was shocked that this occultist whom I had never heard of had managed to pen what I consider to be the most complete Norse grimoire ever written!
Asbjorn presents the Viking Gods not as metaphors to be interpreted, but as real and living forces that exist simultaneously within the Vitki as well as in the world as a whole. These are both forces of nature, as well as powers inherent in the human being.
“The Heathen” then digs into the ancient mythologies, dissecting each of the gods, the fates, traditions, ceremonies, and sagas, delivering not only insights into the deeper meanings of each, but also providing practical means of activating these forces in your life and producing tangible results by doing so.

Senior citizens often complain that they "had it worse than kids these days." Truthfully though, when I was young almost no books existed on black magick, let alone Norse Sorcery. This grimoire is the Norse magickal text that I have been searching for for over 20 years.
It contains more real, working rituals than any other book on the subject, all of which have not only been drawn from traditional resources, but have been reworked through magickal experimentation by the author, using his own life as the testing grounds for this magick.
The runic associations and attributions that Asbjorn provides dig into their utility in the life of the Sorcerer, and each is given with precise means of activating them in your life.
Asbjorn’s magickal theory is also very sound, grounded in logic and evidence, while still making room for the mysterious, even the miraculous.
A magician’s library is far from complete without this book in it.
The Heathen is indeed a true Viking Sorcerer’s Handbook, and I would have given anything to have read it 20 years ago!
