Hello Friend,

It always made sense to me that Azazel would steal fire from the gods and deliver its knowledge to humans, as such would be a certain subversion of Divine Order, fulfilling the mission of the Infernal Hosts, being the full replacement of default creation with the blasphemous creations of the Fallen.

It made sense that he would teach us metallurgy and weaponsmithing, to train us as the apex predators of our planetary system.

I understood why Azazel taught us how to craft and use tools, allowing us to possess infinite strength by adding our intelligence and our resources to the sum of our capability. By this definition, the force of the splitting atoms or colliding electrons is indeed the physical strength of man, and is only poised to exponentially climb.

And it only makes sense that Azazel would initiate us into the Mysteries of Sorcery, as such is the only known route to the full realization of individual godhood.

What never quite made sense to me until now was — why did he teach cosmetics?

And Azazel taught men to make swords and knives and shields and breastplates; and made known to them the metals [of the earth] and the art of working them; and bracelets and ornaments; and the use of antimony and the beautifying of the eyelids; and all kinds of costly stones and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray and became corrupt in all their ways.

— The Book of Enoch 8:1-3

At first glance, the use of makeup seems the definition of trivial and mundane, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Azazel Instructed Me To
Call Him With Antimony Lips And Eyes

As my workings with Azazel escalated towards a full and perfect possess by the Black King, he gave me an instruction that seemed a riddle to me.

“I am Azazel. I will come into you. With antimony eyes and lips covered in antimony.”

I had heard the term ‘Antimony’ before, either in my previous studies of Azazel or in my ceremonial alchemy training, but it may as well have been a brand new word to my ears.

With slight research, I found that antimony was one of the first known cosmetics, specifically being a lead compound used as a type of eyeliner, eyeshadow, or mascara by the Egyptian and Sumerian societies. Often referred to as ‘kohl’, antimony was worn for physical, medicinal, and magickal reasons.

Kohl was known to thwart the “Evil Eye” - both the psychic attack transmitted by eye contact, as well as the transmission of bacterial infections like trachoma, also referred to as “Evil Eye.” The lead sulfide in the antimony essentially lead-poisoned bacteria struggling to cling to anything wet in the dry desert.

In addition to kohl, Sumerians also made lipstick and face makeup by grinding gemstones and mixing the mineral powder with a binding base. By applying this magickal cosmetic to the lips, eyes, and face in various designs, the keen sorcerer could invoke into himself the powers or deities associated with the specific gems.

Egyptian society seemed to insist on antimony as eye makeup for a few reasons: to protect against sunlight; to protect against insects; to protect against disease; and, to protect against psychic attack or mind manipulation.

Since ‘the eyes are the stairway to the soul’, and biologically the eyes plug directly into the brain, it was axiomatic in Egypt that, “An unadorned eye is vulnerable to attack.”

This belief in similar dark cosmetics worn as eyeliner for protection is found throughout the Middle East, the Horn of Africa as well as deeper into the African inland, along the entire mediterranean coast, into parts of Asia, and kohl has even been discovered among the Vikings and Celts.

Makeup IS Magick!

Like many other peoples, Egyptians also used cosmetics for aggressive magick, not just for defense.

Some examples of how makeup IS magick are:

  • Makeup is a form of alchemy, in that it utilizes combinations of various elements, each individual component reduced to its active principal, the magickal effects of each element compounded and magnified in the final product.
  • Makeup is a form of “glamour magick,” as the witch or sorcerer can project a tailored perception of him or her self through carefully selected and intentionally applied makeup.
  • Using makeup to induce specific effects on how others perceive us, like wearing cologne, or applying lipstick and rouge to mimic sexual arousal when on a date, falls into Manipulation or Influencing Magick. In Rootwork, lipsticks, powders, and perfumes are concocted with these specific effects in mind, and it is known that simply wearing them is enough to initiate the desired effect.
  • Wearing makeup can also effect the way we perceive ourselves. Egyptians understood that the body and the soul were reflections of each other, that when the outer self changes, so does the inner self. This is nothing short of the magickal transfiguration of the self!
  • Cosmetics, especially in its ancient manufacture, is in itself a type of form of “lithomancy” or gem and stone magick, as well as magickal metallurgy, in the case of compounds like antimony.
  • Makeup possibly shines brightest as a magickal tool in workings of possession, deity invocation, and other rites in which the Operator loses himself and manifests a separate personality. This is the most widespread magickal use of cosmetics, touching every single magickal society across the globe, throughout history. By wearing the colors or patterns of a specific deity, that spirit is compelled to present itself within the wearer, either taking full possession or imparting its powers and abilities to the makeup wearing black magician.

Despite the countless benefits of cosmetics - or perhaps because of them - makeup is shunned as a Devil’s thing by the descendents of Abraham and worshippers of his god. Indeed, the pious preach that self beautification is an evil teaching from the God of Sin himself, Azazel.

So it is, and so shall we sin, with this Dark Art taught by Azazel. Cosmetics are a gift stolen from the gods and offered to the sorcerer as a tool of power!
