Hey Friend,

In Norse lore, Swartalfheimr is the underworld home of the black elves, who later became known as “dwarves.”

The dwarves seem to be entirely subterranean; the few times they are spotted in Midgard is in caves or other openings to the underworld.

There, in the depths of the earth, their furnaces glow hot and red, the black elves mining the walls of the all-consciousness and forging desires into solid form.

I traveled to their home in the underworld and I invoked them. And, I accidentally insulted them and had to bargain with them for my safe return.

I Descended Into The Underworld For The Dwarves...

Like I’ve mentioned previously, in order to meet with these other beings and travel to their worlds, you have to go to the places that they would be found here in Midgard.

In order to get to the black elves, then, I descended into the underworld.

My favorite part of living where I do is the unlimited access to nature. As a child, instead of watching television, I explored the world around me. Now, I’m in my mid-thirties, and that hasn’t changed one bit!

When I go free adventuring in the wilderness, I sometimes discover the most amazing and magickal places.

After few hours drive into a nearby mountain range, and then a short hike around ancient volcanic rubble overgrown by greenery, I found a giant hole in the ground. I descended into the opening, kicked on my flashlight, and saw a natural tunnel leading deep into the underground. I later found out that this is called a “lava tube” which is formed by air-pockets trapped in cooling lava, creating hallways and caverns that occasionally can be accessed… if you can find the opening!

Before I continued deeper, I knelt in the mouth of the tunnel and drew the bind-rune of the black elves, which acts like a key to open the doors to their realm.

Intoning the galdr, the bind-rune flashed in the air, and an astral membrane formed over the opening. I picked up my bags and my light and passed through it, instantly feeling colder and more damp.

The narrowness of the tube forced me onto my hands and knees, crawling with insects beneath me and sleeping bats above me, right next to my head, I made my way through the tunnel until it opened into a large cavern in which I was able to stand and stretch.

The Ritual Offense... I Insult Them
To Their Faces Accidentally

I pulled candles out of my bag and set them in a circle, and lit them. I also had brought a metal bowl and some high proof alcohol to use as a fire base. I sat in the circle of candles and lit the bowl of fuel before me.

I called out to the Sons of Ivaldi, to the black elves, to teach me the secrets of manifestation, of bringing an imagination forth as a tangible thing.

Their presence was immediate and strong, musky and moldy and heavy. I kept my eyes fixed on the flames before me as their voices guided me in focusing my mind, will, and power in the creation of an object, and they gave me secrets of sealing this into being that I reveal in the Viking Magick course.

Once the ritual was complete, I brought my eyes up from the flames. The walls of the cave were lit up by the candles and the bowl of fire, and the pits and holes and knobs seemed to move into place as soon as I looked up, the cave deformities forming the faces of the dwarves. The longer I looked at them, the clearer the details became, until it was undeniable that I was looking at the faces of these beings with my physical eyes.

What I saw was hideous. I cannot put into words how ugly they were, a I had never considered that anything could possibly be so appalling.

Before I could stop myself, I heard my voice say outloud:

They are hideous, deformed, grotesque!

In that moment, the fire in the bowl was extinguished and the dwarves were gone. And I was left with the sense that I needed to leave immediately. It then became clear to me that I had offended them. I had gone into their home, asked for their help, benefitted by it, and then I had insulted them.

I did not leave that cave until I had made things right with the dwarves, and I had to bargain with them to mend that bridge, because I knew that if I didn’t, they would forever be my enemies rather than my friends.

The best part about this story is that all of it was captured live on HD video. You’ll witness every ritual, I’ll show you every secret rune, and I’ll teach you how to cast spells that will transform the world around you! Come with me into these other worlds to meet hideous and powerful beings and to learn how to master yourself and your reality through the ancient magick of the Vikings!
