Hey Friend,
At some point several years ago I came to the realization that magick, by its very nature, is chaotic.
After working so deeply with Lucifer Amaymon, I need to revise that belief.
In one particular ritual, being an evocation of Amaymon, he didn’t simply tell me what I needed to know, but he showed me, he led me to the firsthand experience of witnessing the Infernal Empire stripped of illusion.
The following is the retelling of that experience, excerpted from my Grimoire of Amaymon, featured in the forthcoming Compendium Of Lucifer-Amaymon:

I pulled myself to my knees and crawled to the altar on which my grimoire sat, fumbled through the pages, and finding a blank one wrote the words Become The Black Sun. The words were Amaymon’s direct command, telling me exactly what I needed to do for the Blind Sight ritual.
“Amaymon, what is the Infernal Empire?” I asked.
“It is all that you would wish it to be," the demon-god replied.
“Is that a real place Amaymon,” I asked. “Is it a real place just as much as this Temple is a real place? Just as much as my home as a real place, all of them existing in my sensory observation of them?”
"Do you think that your senses observe all that occurs on any plane? Look now.”
My eyes were still looking in between worlds, but I could see too much. “It's like chaos,” I said. “It's chaos.”
“It is not chaos,” Amaymon corrected me. “It is potential, waiting for you to put it in order. You put it into order through naming, giving shape, and through the movement of items with your hands. Once you have assembled what we've seen as chaotic in your mind and in your space, you have brought it into order. You understand it and it becomes a part of you. All of those things which you do not understand, you ignore or you reject.”

To bring this back to magick, one of the most confounding things for new magicians is that, once the ritual has been performed, many of the details surrounding the ritual’s goal begin to move, often in unpredictable and seemingly chaotic ways.
This is simply the fact that reality, in its previous static state, needed to be disrupted, shaken up, and sometimes turned upside down to facilitate the change that the ritual is intended to produce. Almost every time, this leaves the magician wondering where they went wrong, when in reality the shakeup is an integral part of the ritual’s success.
I refer to this unexpected phenomenon as “The Whirlwind Effect,” because as soon as the ritual hits its climax, a magickal whirlwind forms around you that is sometimes liable to throw all of the precious details of your life into the air, rearranging what needs to be rearranged, destroying what needs to be destroyed, and strengthening what you will need to move towards your ultimate success.

It is at this phase of the activation of magickal power that most magicians freak out, thinking that the spirits are angry with them, or that they bungled the ritual somehow, panicking that they are going to get the exact opposite of what they asked for.
Once all of the necessary details are aligned in the best way to bring you the result that you want, though, everything lands and settles in a configuration and organization so perfect that all we can do is marvel at how we got exactly what we asked for, exactly what we needed, delivered by means and coincidences that, until they are understood, seem to us to be nothing other than chaos.
Of course, the intensity of the Whirlwind Effect scales with the intensity of the ritual, the potency of the spirit, and the enormity of the goal.
If you are simply using magick to summon a sexual or romantic partner, or to increase your odds at the Blackjack tables, you may not even notice that the whirlwind is happening at all.
On the other hand, if you evoke an ancient Gatekeeper from the Infernal Empire and charge him with the task of guiding you beyond your limitations into a sure knowledge of your Godhood, you can expect a few things to get shaken up in your life, and in yourself.
The key to being a true Master Sorcerer is to learn how to ride the whirlwind. Rather than panicking when you see chaos and disruption, smile and acknowledge the hand of Lucifer-Amaymon working in the world as you have commanded!
