Hey Friend,
Over the past several years I’ve shared many methods of working with spirit sigils: how to open them, how to charge them, and how to use them as portals of power for the specific spirit that you want to contact.
But, lately I’ve had a lot of people ask me what they should do with sigils once they are finished with them.
There are a few ways to answer this question, depending on what the sigil is being used for, so I’m going to take them one at a time.
1. Short-term goals with sigil magick is probably the most common application. These include sigil spells to improve finances, boost recognition, stimulate love interests, provide protection for immediate threats, etc. The common aspect to all of these is that there is a point in which you, the Sorcerer, will be able to say, “The ritual has worked and the end result has manifested!” For instance, if I perform a ritual to bring me $20,000, it will be pretty clear when I receive that money, or if I use a sigil to cast a lust spell, I’ll know for sure when I’ve gotten what I wanted to get out of the spell.

2. Long-term goals with sigil magick are also fairly common, although most of the time only advanced black magicians will make use of this type of magick. Continued business success, long-term health and longevity, and the ongoing development of magickal abilities are some good examples of long-term sigil magick goals. Unlike short-term goals, this category of sigil magick results don’t necessarily have a clear end-point, but will usually have an effect that is meant to be ongoing for as long as the magician wishes to benefit from its power.

Unending goals are very uncommon, and their associated sigils and rituals are often a bit less clear-cut than the previous two categories. The effects are meant to carry on even beyond the death of the Sorcerer who put the magick into play. The continuation of an empire established by the Sorcerer beyond his death is one example, while other examples might be a blessing or a curse on a bloodline, which is actually much less common than you might think… at least it is much less common for these to be effective.

Considering these main categories of the duration of the magickal effect, we can then decide how to construct the sigils, and what exactly to do with them. If the sigil is being used for a short-term goal, then it is advised to draw it on something that you can destroy once you have achieved your end result, like simple paper. After the ritual is complete, I suggest that the best thing to do is to fold the sigil paper up and place it inside of your magickal journal, on the page in which you document that particular ritual. This makes it easy to keep track of the sigils that you have open, and will also act as a reminder to destroy the sigil at the same time that you finalize the journal entry with the report of the successful outcome of the ritual.
The reason that you should destroy the sigil is because it actually acts as a real portal between the worlds, and it is unwise to leave portals open without an active program in place for what that power is supposed to do in your life. The reality is that this power is real and it will effect your reality... you always want to be sure that such effects are within the specifications of your will!
So, once you have determined that the ritual is successful, take the sigil out of your journal, document its success, and burn the sigil, releasing the spirit’s power from your service. I like to take a minute to gaze at the sigil one last time, again connecting with the spirit, feeling its presence around me, and I thank it for its assistance in my life before burning the sigil. An attitude of appreciation is vital to continued success with magick!

You Will Need To “Feed” Your Amulet To Reap Continuous Benefits |

If your goal is long-term, then it is best to create the sigil on something more permanent than paper, like a medal amulet or a wooden disk. In order to reap continuous benefits from a permanent sigil, you will need to give it regular magickal attention, such as meditating on the end result that you desire while gazing at the sigil or holding in your hands. It is even recommended that you “feed” the amulet every few months with a drop of your own blood. These will keep the active effects of the sigil fresh in your life!
For unending goals, you’ll have to get a bit more creative, as the symbols that you use will need to somehow endure beyond your life. This can take the form of heirlooms that are passed down through generations, permanent structures into which the symbols are engraved, or even logos that will be used in association with your “brand” that will remain after your death. These will also require regular magickal attention, meaning that a caretaker will carry on your work and will ensure that the gateway remains open!
