APRIL WINE CLUB Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika. Maluphakanyisw’ uphondo Iwayo. If you speak Xhosa this hymn is all too familiar. This month we are flying you out to the Cape of South Africa-land of Mandela, majestic wildlife and mouth-watering wine. Classico will enjoy a deliciously crisp Sauvignon Blanc from the Western Cape and a firm + full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch. Riserva will have a beautiful Sancerre (ok so this isn’t from South Africa) and a quintessentially South African Pinotage with an immaculate body to it.
Enjoy! Geniet! Sibe! Ukujabulela!
Classico Club Delaire Graff Sauvignon Blanc Western Cape, South Africa A classic Maritime Sauvignon Blanc, this wine reveals aromas of cut grass, asparagus and hints of tropical fruit. Multilayered and complex mouth feel, a crisp and fresh vibrancy with lingering flavors of Cape gooseberry and zesty fruit with a subtle minerally finish. The grapes were handpicked in the early hours from the broader Western cape region covering a vast area of over 400 kms. Vineyards were selected from premium wine regions in an effort to showcase the unique diversity in flavour profiles available in the Western Cape. Grilled Tilapia with Pineapple Salsahttps://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/grilled-tilapia-with-pineapple-salsa/ Stark Conde Stellenbosch 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch, South AfricaBlackberry fruit aromas with tea-leaf and cedar notes. The palate is rich and polished with dark fruit and mocha flavours and a finely balanced acidity. Long finish with fine tannins typical of Jonkershoek Valley wines. 2016 was a dry year, resulting in intensely aromatic wines. The wines are boldly fruited and very plush with velvet-like tannins. Claude Riffault Sancerre Les Chasseignes Sauvignon Blanc Sancerre, France From 25- to 50-year-old vines...displays a very clear, deep, flinty-pure and coolish, but also intense and mineral nose of great precision and individual expression. This Sancerre is full-bodied, very complex and mineral on the palate, with a clear and elegant, very persistent fruit, great grip and lingering salinity. This is a full-bodied and powerful, yet very well-defined and structured Sancerre with a long and characterful finish. One of the finest Sancerres I had for this Loire report. Excellent aging potential. Oysters Rockefeller
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/oysters-rockefeller/ Remhoogte Vantage Pinotage Stellenbosch, South Africa Pinotage is South Africa’s own indigenous grape. Remhoogte’s Pinotage is an outstanding example of what can be achieved with ideal growing conditions and skilled winemaking. The grapes come from are just two blocks of low yielding bush (untrained) vines which provide concentrated and powerful juice. Ruby red in colour, it driven by concentrated flavours of raspberry, delicate floral notes of violet with a natural earthy depth. The wine spends 24 months in oak in order to settle and develop into the powerful and delicate profile you will enjoy. Osso Buco
