The Tom Bass Sculpture Studio welcomes everyone—from complete beginners to experienced artists, to explore the art of sculpture and drawing in a supportive, inspiring environment.

6 Week Life Drawing for Sculptors with Simon Harris

Sat 24 Oct - 5 Dec*| 2:30—5:30pm

Fee: $480 (includes GST and basic materials)

Back by popular demand the 6-week life drawing course focuses on learning to see and draw the human figure as a three-dimensional form. Work from a live model each week, developing gesture, structure, light and anatomy, and complete a final study that strengthens sculptural practice.

Sculpture in a Day: Carving Soapstone with Karen Alexander

Sun 25 October | 10am—4pm

Fee: $255, or book for two or more $225

(includes GST, a small piece of soapstone and use of tools)

Create a small, finished soapstone sculpture in this one-day workshop. Soapstone is a soft, easily carved stone with beautiful natural patterns, available in a variety of colours. You’ll be guided in using rasps and files to gradually reveal the hidden organic shapes and forms within—resulting in your very own unique sculpture to take home.

A fun, creative and meditative one-day experience—perfect for those short on time, or a great taste tester for anyone curious about carving in stone.

One Day Modelling the Figure with Monika Scarrabelotti

Sunday 22 November| 10am—4pm

Fee: $295, or book for two or more $265

(includes GST, clay, and use of tools)

Immerse yourself in the timeless art of figure modelling and learn to capture the human form. Working directly from a life model, you’ll discover techniques to bring your sculpture to life focusing on proportion, anatomy, and gesture. This hands-on class is open to all skill levels, though some art making experience is recommended.

Monika is an experienced sculptor and teacher and encourages quick and expressive work. Classes are generally fun and relaxed whilst remaining a focused and supportive environment.

6-Day Intensive Marble Carving Workshops with Usama Alnassar

Friday—Wednesday, 22—27 January 2027 | 6 days | 9:30am—4:30pm

Fee: $1490 (includes one piece of marble, tuition, use of tools and GST)

You will learn to use traditional hand-tools and techniques for carving, including methods of transferring ideas onto a piece of marble and finding form within the stone. Participants will work directly on the famous White Statuario Marble from Carrara to acquire basic skills and to understand the nature of the material.

Special Guest teacher Alnassar was born in Syria. He lives and works in Carrara, Italy among the white Michelangelo marble quarries, where he teaches sculpture courses and works on small and monumental sculptures. His works have been shown in individual and group exhibitions internationally.
