Remember Who is in Charge

Ednor Davison, who currently serves as communication director for the Atlantic Union Conference, learned a valuable lesson about leadership a few days into her first management role, while working at an insurance company. As a mid-level employee who had risen to a new position, she was surprised by her boss's curt response to her question.

“It seemed my boss believed that since I was now a leader, I should already know the answer to everything and should not have to go to her for help,” Davison said.

She vowed never to make anyone she worked with experience the same situation. It is encounters like this, both good and bad, and her deep faith in God
"It is easy to become discouraged ... but I intentionally ... remind myself 'Who' it is that is leading my life."
that have influenced her leadership journey. Her goal is to make sure her team “works in an environment that is conducive to being productive and achieving the goals set.” Beyond that, she is always ready to join them in their hard work.

After more than 12 years in secular management positions, Davison has spent the past 18 years working in leadership for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She knows it is God who placed her as a leader, and she remembers that when facing challenges.

“It is easy to become discouraged because of difficulties, but I intentionally step back and take a moment to remind myself ‘Who’ it is that is leading my life,” Davison said.

Galatians 6:9 (see Meditations below), a verse her father shared with her, “lifts me up no matter what is going on around me and reminds me where to keep my focus—on God,” she said.
