Leading to Inspire
As a leader, Twyla Wall, director of Adventist Information Ministry (AIM) in Berrien Springs, Mich., finds she prefers to collaborate with her team.

“I have never wanted to tell people what to do, so I sought another way,” she said.

She called it a misconception to think of people as working for you.

“I take every opportunity to emphasize that people work with me,” she said.

To foster that idea, she spends time listening and gathering input from her team.
"If those you work with internalize the mission, they will bring their best to the table."
Wall, who has held many roles from teacher to event planner to business owner, believes in leadership her “fundamental role is to inspire buy-in.”

“If those you work with internalize the mission, they will bring their best to the table,” she said.

As the director of AIM for the past six years, she has been involved in the North American Division call center’s transition into a “contact center poised to expand into text, chat and social media.” Those responding to appeals or offers from 3ABN, Hope Channel, It is Written, Oakwood University Church and other evangelistic ministries may find themselves speaking to one of the customer service representatives in AIM’s office.

Wall joined AIM in 2000 and will retire next month. She has been an inspiration to Angel Easton, assistant supervisor of operations and social media manager for AIM.

“She is as confident in your ability to be great as she is in the importance of the mission we do here,” Easton said of Wall. “She imparts her creative vision to the AIM team, always looking at the big picture and ensuring that we are poised for greatness. She equips us with the confidence to accomplish whatever task is at hand.”
