Why It Works
For this time, we have Nicole and Katie on deck.
Be sure to send ahead of time the first 200-250 words of the beginning of your novel, so we can discuss together the below topics.
Attention: We'll focus on these questions and leave line edits to another time.
- What is the theme? What is the story about? What is the point of the story?
- What pulls you in? What's hooking you? Be specific, meaning what words grab you? And why?
- What genre expectations are your meeting? Subverting?
- Who is the ideal reader's psychographics*?
*Psychographics: Psychographics are the attitudes, interests, personality, values, opinions, and lifestyle of your target market. (From "Psychographics: What They Are & How Marketers Use Them" https://cxl.com/blog/psychographics/)
I'd also add:
- beliefs
- desires
- hopes
- yearnings
Then we'll integrate the ahas and takeaways back into our creative process.
