It's been an interesting day! The Royal Aiustralian Mint and Rebel Sport surprised us yesterday with news that they were releasing a set of two coloured $2 coins today. Unlike recent coin releases, there was no warning this was coming.

Here are the key details for the promotion:
1. There are two $2 coins - one coin each for the Wallabies and Wallaroos rugby teams.
2. The two coins are going into circulation through Rebel Sport (when you pay cash).
3. There is a pack with the two coins available to buy - this pack costs $18.

Then the plot thickened this morning when ALL the details were revealed...

The coins in the $18 pack have a different colour design than the coins going into circulation. So, technically there are four different coins (same background, different colour/paint).

As you can see, the background of the two coins are identical, it's only the paint that's different.

These $18 packs have a mintage of 50,000. The RAM sold out of their sets very fast this morning, but as I write this, Rebel Sport seems to still have a supply of these packs. You can either get them in store or online. And if you pay cash in store, you can get the circulated coins in your change. The staff in store were very friendly, but they did have a limit per customer of about 2-5 coins.

Bad news/Good news:
If you're planning a trip to Rebel Sport, please note stores may only have one of the two circulation coins in their cash registers. I had to visit multiple Rebel stores here in Brisbane this morning to get both circulated coins. You may have to visit your store multiple times to get both coins.

That said, the good news is that these circulation coins should be available for a few weeks, if not longer.
