It's a great time to be a coin collector - while this coming year (2026) is the 60th anniversary of decimal currency, 2025 has given us fifteen new coins in circulation (including the standard design coins), tonnes of collector coins through retail promotions and plenty of drama.

With all these new coins and the upcoming mintages, we have just released the new Pirate Guide to Collecting Australian Coins for pre-order.

I'm really excited about this new edition, as we've made a couple of big updates.

Firstly, this new edition shows the uncirculated mintages for each coin in circulation (where it exists). So that means that if the coin was released in a RAM annual set, a coin roll, a PNC or even a coin swap (and the Mint reported those numbers), there are mintage numbers showing both the circulated AND uncirculated mintages...


I haven't seen this info anywhere else, and it seems important to show the full picture of a coin's mintage.

The other major change is that there is a section at the front of the book that goes into detail about the steps for creating coins, and the various errors that can happen at each stage of the coin creation (plus details on how the errors happen). We've added a few new errors this year and of course information on how to spot each error.
