Dear Stargazers,

Last week I promised to send you an extra edition of this newsletter by December 23 that would cover some important planetary events during the last week of the year.

'm delivering on that promise now, so read on!
JUPITER OPPOSES URANUS
December 26, 2016

On December 26, the first of three transiting Jupiter-Uranus oppositions will take place with Jupiter at 20° Libra and Uranus at  20°Aries.

Jupiter and Uranus are both freedom-loving planets, and as this energy continues to build many of you may feel a powerful urge to break free of a limiting relationship or situation in your life, and this urge may be accompanied by an equally strong feeling of optimism, enthusiasm and, in some cases, overconfidence.

Whenever Jupiter and Uranus get together, you can be assured that the greater the risk, the greater the reward. With both Jupiter and Uranus making positive aspects to Saturn (structure, stability), if you've done the work and prepared well, their combined energy might help you take off like a rocket and achieve an astounding success. If you haven't prepared well, you may still take off with rockets blazing but could find yourself falling fast.

Whether you've just been inspired to do something new or have been working towards something for a while, the key to making the most of this energy is to resist giving in to feelings of urgency or impatience. It's important to review your plans carefully (especially since Mercury is retrograde), and given the unpredictable nature of Uranus, be sure your safety net is securely in place.

Unfortunately, this aspect is a bit too complex to personalize in a newsletter, but odds are hight that between now and December 27, some of you will experience surprising news or a sudden turn of events. Whether it turns out to be a crushing disappointment, a hoped-for miracle or something in between depends upon your personal horoscope.

Note: Events connected to the two subsequent oppositions are likely to have roots in first one.The second opposition takes place on March 2, 2017 at 22° Libra/22°Aries; the final one takes place on September 28, 2017 at 27°Libra/27°Aries. These oppositions will be discussed in future issues.
URANUS STATIONS DIRECT
December 29, 2016

On July 29, 2016, Uranus stationed retrograde, and since that time some of you may have felt a need to make a major change in your life. Odds are you didn't know the exact nature of the change that needed to be made, only that it had to create more freedom, more choices and more independence in some area of your life.

This is especially true for those of you who have a planet at or near 20° - 24° Aries. It may have felt as though a mutiny was stirring within you, and as you debated it over and over in your practical conscious mind, you couldn't silence the intuitive voice that was telling you not to settle, not to surrender and never give up on whatever dream or vision you hold in your heart. If you listened to this voice and heeded its direction, you spent a great deal of time planning how to make this change happen.

At 4:29 AM EST on December 29, just a few short hours after the Capricorn New Moon, Uranus will station direct at 20°23'.  When it does, it signals a time for you to step up, step out and step forward into a new cycle of personal growth and development. In other words, as Uranus moves forward with confidence under the initiating energy of the Capricorn New Moon, it's time to put that plan into action. While it's possible that Mercury retrograde could promote some type of hesitation on your part, rest assured that influence  will be fleeting.

NEW MOON at 7°59' CAPRICORN
December 29, 2017
1:53 AM EST, Washington, DC

We began 2016 with a new moon in the grounded, persevering and achievement-oriented sign of Capricorn, and as we close the year with a second one, we've come full circle.

Located in the 3rd house, this new moon is in a tight conjunction with Mercury retrograde which emphasizes communications and intellect. While Mercury retrograde's placement here suggests looking inward, its close connection to the Moon suggests there's an intuitive element. Although a subtle aspect, the sextile from this planetary trio in the 3rd house (the mind) to the Mars-Neptune conjunction in the 5th house (self-expression) enhances the flow of intuitive energy between them.

The intuitive element is further suggested by the placement of the 3rd house ruler (Jupiter) in the 12th house (clairvoyance). Jupiter is still within orb of of its opposition to Uranus, and as it happens, Uranus rules the 4th house (intuition) in this chart which suggests the potential for sudden flashes of intuitive insights. The co-ruler of the 3rd house is Saturn which, via a trine to Uranus and sextile to Jupiter, contributes stability to these insights that increases their reliability.

Looking at this chart from another perspective, the interplay between the planets in the 3rd and 5th houses suggests that the energy of this new moon promotes an exchange of ideas, supports creativity and encourages affection.

Achievement is always a theme with the Capricorn new moon, and with an emphasis on thoughts (3rd house) and self-expression (5th house), this new moon is asking us to use the energy of Mercury retrograde to review the goals we set at the January Capricorn new moon.

Not just to measure how far we've come.
Not to measure how far we may still need to go.
But to measure how much we've grown,
And reconsider how we define achievement now.

TRANSITING MARS-NEPTUNE CONJUNCTION

As I wrote in last week's issue, transiting Mars will make a conjunction to transiting Neptune at 1:53 AM EST on New Year's Day, and you can expect to feel its influence strongly on New Year's Eve.

On a practical everyday level, this planetary combination can inspire procrastination, so don't be surprised if you (or someone else) decides to blow off plans in favor of staying home and watching a movie.

In the highest sense, this energy may inspire you with renewed hope or a perhaps a new dream for the coming year.

In the lowest sense, this energy can blow things out of proportion. It would be wise to avoid discussing any potential hot button issues under this influence. It can also manifest as deception or theft so be mindful of your wallet if you're out and about at this time.

In the physical sense,  when you combine impulsive action (Mars) with alcohol or drugs (Neptune), the potential for overindulging, as well as a nasty hangover and/or regrets for one's behavior, is high. Worse, although it would be an extreme manifestation, this planetary combination can coincide with a substance-related accident, alcohol poisoning or an overdose. This is especially important if you're on any type of medication (Neptune) that warns against alcohol consumption.
