August 9, 2025 • 3:56 PM EDT • 17°00' ♒︎
A full moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are at the same degree in opposite signs, and although there are major aspect patterns accompanying it, this month's Aquarius full moon is unaspected.
In other words, the Leo Sun and Aquarius Moon only have eyes for each other, which means its expression is unaffected by other planetary influences.
The USA. In last week's newsletter, I commented on the recent flooding and 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Alaska saying that:
August 7-10 is noteworthy because during that time transiting Mars will be directly opposing the nation's 4th house cusp, as well as transiting Saturn and Neptune which will be sitting on it.
That this alignment will be in in effect during the August 9 full moon increases the odds of a significant event, though based on a quick analysis of the chart it may not be weather related.
Given that there was a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in New Jersey yesterday (August 2), together with the fact that the full moon is within 10° (wide but within orb of a conjunction) of the nation's Moon making a quincunx to its Mars (4th house ruler), I stand by my previous comment that the full moon could coincide with an earthquake, or alternatively, some other type of natural disaster/weather event.
Collectively speaking, the purpose of this full moon is to bring awareness to the need for community, fellowship and social responsibility.
On the individual level, the purpose of this full moon is to to awaken you to areas of your life where you need more freedom, that would benefit from a dose of originality, or are in need of a radical change.
Planetary Support. Although they don't connect with the full moon itself, there are several beneficial planetary alignments occurring at the same time.
For starters, there is a Grand Air Trine consisting of Mars in Libra, Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius, which is a very positive influence that promotes sociability, curiosity and creativity.
This influence can help you ask the right questions about your situation, reach out to others for help and/or come up with innovative solutions.
While this is a wonderful configuration, it is a self-contained energy, which means it benefits can be wasted if we aren't aware of it.
Fortunately, thanks to Saturn in Aries and Neptune in Aries opposing Mars and sextiling Uranus and Pluto, the awareness is there because these oppositions form a tail that changes this Grand Air Trine into two distinct Kites.
The oppositions (awareness, balance) from Saturn (structure) and Neptune (vision) create awareness and serve as an outlet for the self-contained energy, while the sextiles to Uranus (change) and Pluto (transformation) offer additional opportunities for expression.
Lastly, the opposition (awareness, balance) between transiting Mercury Rx and transiting Pluto brings in the potential for ideas, thoughts and discussions (Mercury) that will help you reflect (retrograde) on what needs to be transformed (Pluto) in your life.
However, since Mercury is retrograde until August 11, 2025, it's possible that such awareness will come a few days after the full moon occurs. Either way, it will be best to wait to incorporate any changes or ideas until after it is moving direct.

Releasing with the Aquarius Full Moon
If you plan to do a full moon ritual for releasing something from your life, be sure to do it after the full moon has occurred at 3:56 PM EDT (remember to adjust for your time zone). If you do it before the full moon occurs, the moon will still be waxing (growing) and you will be trying to release something during a powerful time of attraction.
Personally, I like to wait a few days until I see the Moon start to disappear a bit.
Now, you can release anything under any full moon, but when it's in Aquarius, it is especially favorable for releasing negative beliefs related to your hopes, goals, casual friends, peers, colleagues, humanitarian causes and group relationships.
It's also a favorable time to release unwanted traits or behaviors, such as being callous, defiant, rebellious, indifferent, unpredictable, detached or condescending.
