DEVASTATING NEWS: The ABC reports: The Great Western Highway will remain shut for at least three months, with the NSW government warning the situation is "incredibly serious". The government said "even under the most optimistic scenario" it would then take a further two months to make the road safe again for vehicles. NOW IS THE TIME for all of us to get out there and support Mount Victoria, Hartley and Lithgow. Full story

TODAY is 'FRIDAY 13th', 'BLACK FRIDAY'.

BACKSTORY: The superstition comes from combining two older beliefs:

  • 13 was seen as unlucky because it disrupted the “perfect” number 12 (months, apostles, zodiac signs).

  • Friday had negative associations in Christian Europe, including the crucifixion of Jesus.

The fear really took off in the 1800s, early 1900s and spread globally through books, media, and later horror films. In Australia, it’s mostly cultural fun rather than genuine fear—though many hotels still skip a 13th floor, following international practice.

HARTLEY IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

HEADS UP: Norman Lindsay Gallery announces the Liz Player Quartet for the much-anticipated Wine & Jazz in the Garden on Saturday, 28th March. More info
