Dear Friend of America’s Survival:

It’s been confirmed that NSA defector Edward Snowden facilitated the terrorist attacks in France. Please read my column.

Former CIA director James Woolsey said today on CNN that Snowden should be brought back to the U.S. and hanged for treason. He said the blood of the victims in France is on his hands.

I want to remind you that we held a conference last year warning that Snowden’s revelations would help Russia, ISIS, and Iran. We said, “Edward Snowden is responsible, in part, for the rise of Putin’s Russia, the rise of ISIS, and accelerated Chinese cyber warfare against the United States. Not only that, but Snowden’s disclosures will undoubtedly facilitate the development of Iran’s nuclear program, as he disclosed NSA surveillance techniques directed at the Iranian regime.”

Read our remarks from that conference.

It’s ridiculous to think Russia is sincerely motvated to take out ISIS. After all, the Russians are protecting Snowden. Snowden made the growth of ISIS possible.

In June, we warned the Senate against weakening the powers and authority of the NSA. Unfortunately, Senator Ted Cruz voted to weaken the NSA. We said: “He [Cruz] voted mostly with left-wing Democrats to destroy the NSA’s ability to review a government database of telephone numbers that could be linked to terrorist plots. Cruz, a presidential candidate, voted for an unworkable alternative—keeping the numbers in the hands of private telecommunications firms, an untested system which could fail at the precise moment when we need it most. The result could be another successful terrorist attack on American soil, with perhaps thousands of dead Americans.”

With good reason, Senator Marco Rubio  has attacked Cruz over his vote.

“We're vulnerable,” Rubio said. “At least two of my colleagues in the Senate aspiring to the presidency, Senator Cruz in particular, have voted to weaken the U.S. intelligence programs ... and the weakening of our intelligence gathering capabilities leaves America vulnerable.” The Tampa Bay Times noted that the other Senator was Rand Paul.

Rubio told radio host Hugh Hewitt that Cruz “was a part of that coalition that worked with the Democrats like Chuck Schumer and the ACLU to harm our intelligence programs.”

Cruz must repudiate his prior vote against the NSA and join Senator Rubio in an effort to support the agency.

Rubio has joined with Senator Tom Cotton to introduce The Liberty Through Strength Act, which would:

  • Extend the transition timeline in the USA FREEDOM Act until after January 31, 2017, and upon certification from the President that the new architecture will have no operational impacts; and
  • Make permanent the USA PATRIOT Act’s “lone wolf” and roving wiretap provisions.

I am not taking sides in the presidential contest; my interest is in making sure we have the best possible intelligence. Cruz must recognize his mistake and reverse course before more attacks take place here or abroad.  It still may be too late for him to save his presidential campaign. But he must do the right thing.
