[ASI] Ted Cruz Cruises to the Left

Dear Friend of America’s Survival:

It’s probably my most controversial column ever:

However, Senator Ted Cruz, a favorite of conservatives, voted with the far-left in favor of the so-called “USA Freedom Act,” a bill that undermines the terrorist surveillance powers of the NSA. Cruz supporters are irate with me. My column has been BANNED at some conservative sites. Read the column for yourself.

By contrast, as I point out in the column, Senator Marco Rubio, another presidential candidate, voted CORRECTLY AGAINST that bill.

In the end, Russian agent Edward Snowden won. We are now less safe, at a time when terrorists in Boston have been exposed for planning a beheading of my friend and associate, Pamela Geller.

Again, by contrast, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush also took the correct position. “We’re safer today because of the Patriot Act,” Bush said. “And this notion that somehow—you create a false narrative, that you say, as many on the left, and a few on our team but mostly on the left have said that our civil liberties are being violated—it’s not true!” He added, “There’s no evidence of it!,” and continued,  “You can say it all you want, but if it’s not true, then why would we give up something that has kept us safe?”

Cruz cruises left.

In a report on these comments, the Daily Beast said that Jeb Bush added that “of course we need safeguards,” and that those safeguards are the FISA courts, already in place and making sure the terrorist surveillance powers are being used against the terrorists and their American agents. “I’m deeply troubled by this,” Bush said, in regard to the anti-NSA attacks, “because there is this narrative that has been built up right now that is quite dangerous for the homeland.” The publication added that Bush said, if there was a terrorist attack, then “the very same people that now are saying that our civil liberties are being violated are going to be critical of the people that said, ‘Why don’t you keep us safe.’”

Cruz has seriously damaged his presidential campaign. And he has made us less safe. The Russians and Chinese backing Snowden are happy.

When Snowden wins, we lose.

Cliff Kincaid, President
