Dear Friend of America's Survival:

Obama's impeachment will not take place if Republicans keep searching for an elusive "smoking gun" memo or a meeting that does not exist.

Consider the American Spectator piece, "Obama and the IRS: The Smoking Gun?," which is supposedly about Obama meeting with the head of the IRS Treasury employees union to plot the IRS campaign against conservatives.

Jeffrey Lord asked, "Is President Obama directly implicated in the IRS scandal? Is the White House Visitors Log the trail to the smoking gun?" The "scoop" doesn't prove anything. In fact, the conservative Daily Caller reports that the National Treasury Employees Union says the "meeting" with Obama – recorded on the visitors log -- was in the context  of a "White House Forum on Workplace Flexibility at the Old Executive Office Building," attended by approximately 200 people, including NTEU president Colleen Kelley.

The NTEU notes this description of the meeting. It occurred on the same day, March 31, 2010, cited in Lord's article. It says, "The Forum brought together small business owners, corporate leaders, workers, policy experts, and labor leaders to explore the importance of creating workplace practices that allow America's working men and women to meet the demands of their jobs without sacrificing the needs of their families."

Lord went public with a "scoop" but he didn't have all the facts. If Jeffrey Lord can't come up with anything more than mere speculation, based on incomplete records, he ought to retract his story.

I asked him if he would retract his story and he replied:

"I have sent a series of questions to Colleen Kelley...and thus far...silence. Note: I asked the question in my story.....because I genuinely didn't know why she was there. I asked the question in the column...and we have an answer.  But it is crystal clear there is a relationship between the NTEU and the Obama White House. She herself has described her view of this relationship as being about 'collaboration.' As an ex-White House aide myself it makes no sense that someone in her position has as much access as she does to the White House and the President (she's been there socially, as noted), speaks glowingly of 'partnership' and 'collaboration'...yet has zero communication on a subject on which the President, his staff, and his congressional allies (Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Franken etc etc) have been loudly emphatic - The Tea Party. So I will keep digging for answers. She answered but one question today - that I posed in the column - and not to me. Hmmmm."

I think Jeffrey Lord has to come up with something -- and fast -- to back up his speculation. It looks bad for him.

Conservatives in the media have to maintain high standards.

However, some good work is being done on the conservative side regarding the role of Soros-funded groups in the Obama IRS scandal.

I have posted these at www.sorosfiles.com with proper credit being given.

My own article on the use of the IRS against conservative media is at our own site, Accuracy in Media, GOPUSA, and others.
