Dear Friend of America's Survival, Inc.:

Dick Morris is predicting a landslide for Romney. Nate Silver of the New York Times is saying that Obama is a certain winner. But there is a new report in the New York Times of a Romney Russian connection that could cost Romney the election.

I do not use this website to make endorsements, only provide information you need to know.

The troubling news from the New York Times:

It begins: "Matt Romney, a son of the Republican presidential nominee, traveled to Moscow this week seeking Russian investors for his California-based real estate firm just days before his father is to wrap up a campaign in which he has vowed to take a tougher stance with the Kremlin."

The story says that, "€¦while in Moscow, Mr. Romney told a Russian known to be able to deliver messages to Mr. Putin that despite the campaign rhetoric, his father wants good relations if he becomes president, according to a person informed about the conversation."

It went on, "The Romney campaign said it had no comment."

I believe we deserve an answer from the Romney campaign. Don't you?

Officially, the Romney campaign says that, if elected, Romney "will implement a strategy that will seek to discourage aggressive or expansionist behavior on the part of Russia and encourage democratic political and economic reform."

The document points out:

  • the Obama Administration has failed to move Russia toward a more beneficial working relationship with the United States and our allies.
  • President Obama withdrew from President Bush's plan to place a missile-defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic, a move Russia strongly desired.
  • Obama continued the same "we give, Russia gets" policy by signing the New START treaty in 2010€¦New START gave Russia room to expand its arsenal while requiring the United States to reduce our own...
  • President Obama has glossed over the creeping authoritarianism of the Putin regime, even congratulating the Russian president on winning what was widely seen as an election marred by irregularities and manipulation. In return for these concessions, President Obama has extracted no meaningful cooperation from Russia.

How does all of this tough talk square with Romney's son Matt going to Russia and reportedly telling the Russians that this is all "campaign rhetoric?"

Why make a visit like this at such a sensitive time? Is this just more of the "business as usual" that we expect from politicians?

Here's what we know about Matt Romney from the Excel Trust website:

"Matthew S. Romney has served as Senior Vice President of Capital Markets since our formation in December 2009. Since January 2008, Mr. Romney has served as Vice President of Strategy/Investments of Excel Realty Holdings. From September 2005 to January 2008, Mr. Romney served as Vice President Property Management for Excel Realty Holdings. From September 2003 to July 2005, Mr. Romney served as Product Manager for Microsoft Corporation. Prior to joining Microsoft Corporation, Mr. Romney held various marketing and project management positions for Lavastorm, Inc. and Polaroid Corporation. Mr. Romney received a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University."

It's an impressive resume. But the Russian connection that we have just learned about is very troubling.

Why would Matt Romney do this just before the election? Who do you think leaked this information to the New York Times? Clearly, the Russians did. One obvious purpose is to embarrass Romney the father.  But why would the son put himself -- and the father -- in a position like this?

The "progressive" news sites are already saying this is a preview of "Romney Family Crony Capitalism" at work. The Nation magazine says, "...if Matt is going to deliver a foreign policy announcement about his father during a business meeting, isn't that a clear message to his potential partners that he has special access to policymaking?"
