[ASI] Limbaugh Is Working for Obama

Dear Friend of America's Survival, Inc.:

Limbaugh Is Working for Obama

I wrote in my March 8 column that "Limbaugh has turned out to be the best thing going for President Obama and the Democrats." Now the evidence is in. Look at the Washington Post headline: "Recent debate over contraception comes as GOP loses gains among women." The story was accompanied by a photo of Limbaugh's target, Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke.

The Post reveals:

"When The Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey asked last summer which party should control Congress, a slim 46-42 percent plurality of women said it should be the Democrats. But in a survey released Monday, compiling polling since the beginning of the year, that figure had widened considerably to a 15-point advantage for the Democrats, according to polling by the team of Democratic pollster Peter Hart and Republican Bill McInturff. Fifty-one percent favored Democratic control; only 36 percent favored the Republicans."

That is an eleven point swing in favor of Obama.

A column in the Rutland Herald put it this way:

"I want to know how much the Democratic Party is paying Rush Limbaugh to sabotage Republican prospects in November."

Unfortunately, it's the unthinking "dittoheads" paying for this debacle.

Here are some other excerpts from the Post article:

"A GOP strategist, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the party's situation frankly, said: ‘It's devastating. I don't think it's going to go away. I think it's going to be a significant challenge the Republican nominee is going to inherit.'

"Obama has moved aggressively to take advantage of the opening Republicans have provided. He personally called Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University student who had been attacked by conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh over her advocacy for contraceptive coverage, and expressed his support.

"Republicans and their allies have fueled the fire, most damagingly with accusations that women use birth control so they can be more promiscuous.

"Santorum's biggest financial backer, Foster Friess, told a mossy joke on MSNBC about aspirin being a form of birth control if a woman puts it between her knees. Limbaugh called Georgetown law student Fluke a ‘slut' and a ‘prostitute.'"

It's important to understand why this is happening. When Obama issued his birth control mandate, many Americans rallied to the defense of religious freedom, saying that the government shouild not dictate to private religious institutions. But when Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, he change the debate into one of women's rights. Limbaugh used the power of his microphone to attack a woman law student who had testified before a liberal congressional panel. He completely undermined the Catholic campaign to safeguard religious rights and freedoms.

By doing so, Limbaugh played into Obama's hands and made conservatives look like anti-woman buffoons.

Limbaugh was not only personally insulting toward  Fluke, when he called her a "slut" and "prostitute,"  he had his facts completely wrong;. He made accusations based on the false assumption that women use birth control pills only to prevent pregnancy. In fact,   birth control pills can be prescribed to address various medical problems faced by women.

The other major mistake Limbaugh made was to accuse Fluke of wanting the taxpayers to pay for contraception. That was false. She wanted insurance companies to pay for it.

The damage has now been done. The only way to rectify the damage is for conservatives to demand that Rush resign his radio show. It is not only wrong to defend this irresponsible and sleazy commentator, it is political suicide to "stand with Rush."

Keach Hagey reports in Politico that conservatives are finding some spine, after years of pandering to get Limbaugh's approval. She notes that "...some conservatives believe he will no longer command the same kind of fealty from Republicans in Washington that prompted [Michael] Steele's groveling two years ago." Let's hope his power diminishes and in fact expires. (Note: then-Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele had referred to Limbaugh in 2009 as just an entertainer and found himself offering an apology within a day.)

Now we see this predictable headline in the New York Times: Obama Plans Big Effort to Build Support Among Women. It refers to Obama taking advantage of "controversies over Rush Limbaugh's slurs against a female advocate of the contraception policy..."

The Times reports, "A New York Times/CBS News poll in mid-February showed that women, who in a January poll had disapproved of Mr. Obama's job performance by 48 percent to 46 percent, now approved of him by 53 percent to 38 percent (men disapproved by 49 percent to 45 percent, about the same as the previous month)."

Let's don't forget that Limbaugh went deaf through using pain killers illegally obtained through his maid. He got caught smuggling Viagra to a foreign island for a stag party.

Limbaugh is killing the conservative cause.  But many "conservatives" are afraid of standing up to him. I will do so. Will you join me?
