[ASI] Limbaugh Helps the Liberals

March 5th, 2012 at 6:42 pm EST

Dear Friend of America's Survival, Inc.:

This will be all I have to say about the Rush Limbaugh controversy.

It's true there is a double standard. Limbaugh is under attack for using the same kind of language used by marijuana pothead Bill Maher of HBO. In fact, Maher is worse. But I don't watch Maher. He has a small and insignificant audience.

AP reports that, "Bill Maher, who gave $1 million to a super PAC that supports President Barack Obama, was widely criticized recently for mocking NFL quarterback Tim Tebow's religious beliefs on Twitter."

Why don't we spend our time demanding that the pro-Obama PAC give back the money instead of defending Limbaugh?

I hate to be seen as piling on, since the progressive Left has a habit of trying to force conservatives out of the media. That is clearly the case with Limbaugh, On the other hand, I believe conservatives should hold themselves to a higher standard. Limbaugh can never recover from his malicious personal attacks on a feminist law student. He is a bleeding sore on the conservative movement. We can do better than this. Don't you agree?

In fact, Limbaugh is not a movement conservative. He never voted for  Reagan (he didn't register to vote until 1986, after Reagan had been re-elected to his second term).  But he acted like a conservative and made tens of millions of dollars. A college drop-out, he resorts to name-calling instead of using intellectual arguments to make his case. Perhaps he simply lacks the intellectual ammunition. I agree that he can be funny. But many think he is a serious thinker. His "Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies" is a fraud; it doesn't' exist. It is a joke, too.

Rick Santorum called Limbaugh an "entertainer" who had license to be "absurd" sometimes.

But Limbaugh isn't laughing now. Twelve advertisers have reportedly suspended or permanently canceled their advertising on his show. The fact is that Limbaugh did it to himself. He apologized, saying he had resorted to the tactics and name-calling of the left.  He played into the hands of the left. Conservatives can do better.

There's a big difference between what is happening to Limbaugh and what happened to Glenn Beck and Pat Buchanan. Beck and Buchanan were terminated by Fox News and MSNBC respectively because of their views. In Beck's case, it was because he was subjecting George Soros to scrutiny. Beck's firing was wrong. That is why we launched a campaign to "Bring Back Beck."

I won't be launching a "Bring Back Rush" campaign. If he goes, it will be because of his own stupid comments. Too bad, Rush. You can retire in luxury anyway.

Rather than defend this fool, we should redouble our efforts to hold the liberal media accountable. We should insist on a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Andrew Breitbart. We will have more to report on this in the future. We are currently investigating.

George Weigel calls the controversy "Rush Limbaugh's one-man circular firing squad." He expressed the hope that the real battle in defense of religious freedom will continue. To hear another hard-hitting sermon on this subject, please  click here. This is the real issue. It's not birth control, but the government forcing people to pay for it and violating the First Amendment right of religious freedom. Limbaugh distorted the real issue by attacking the law student.

Another real issue is the nature of birth control. You've probably seen the ads -  Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella birth control pills have been associated with heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, pancreas and gall bladder damage. These ads are true. Birth control pills are dangerous chemicals. Their purpose — like abortion itself -- is to keep women sexually available for men.

Plus, the Obama mandate is a financial bonanza for Big Pharma, which makes millions of dollars by getting the government to require free birth control pills. Why isn't this financial aspect of the issue exposed by Limbaugh?  Or the rest of the media? Is it because Big Pharma spends so much money on advertising on radio and TV?

We should start looking at the big picture.

Instead, Limbaugh made a personal attack on a feminist law student who doesn't belong at a Catholic university. She is a law student at Georgetown, even though she had worked for the pro-abortion NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund. She should never have been admitted to the school. She should have gone elsewhere.

Now she is both the victim and a heroine (to some on the left) and milking it for all that it is worth. She's been all over the media. She can probably sue Limbaugh for slander and/or libel and win. She probably will, just to keep the controversy going.

Limbaugh changed the debate in a manner that benefitted liberals. He made a fool of himself by attacking the feminist law student as a prostitute and a slut. He is apologizing only because he is losing sponsors and money. He is a disgrace and he must go.

I have always considered Limbaugh an entertainer, not a serious thinker. But many people take him seriously. I hope you are not one of them.

Don't shed any tears for the multi-millionaire Limbaugh. Forget about him.
