News and Opportunities for Artists of Fairfield County
JUNE 17, 2017
Given the current schedule of conferences (and, yes, a vacation), the Artists Newsletter has been delayed. The next scheduled Newsletter will be distributed Friday, June 29. As there are some key deadlines coming up, I am sending out this interim bulletin. Please remember to post your announcements and events directly to  - David Green
JUNE 17-18

A notice from Brec Morgan:
Russell Jinishian, my gallerist, is having a giant tag sale, today (Sat) and tomorrow, 10am to 6pm-ish at his home: 154 Grovers Ave., Black Rock, Bridgeport. Much of the contents of his late wife, Pat Warfield's, studio is available. Included are stretchers, frames, primed canvas, loads of pastels, studio equipment, stuffed ravens, tarred twine, ceramic equipment, and tons or artist artifacts. "Worth checking out if you are around."

The Westport Arts Center's SELECTS, is its eleventh annual summer member artist exhibition. Formerly known as SOLOS, SELECTS is designed to discover and showcase new works of art by talented artists in the region, and also helps new artists discover the Westport Arts Center. Jurors for SELECTS are Charlotte Strick, Art Editor of The Paris Review literary magazine and Claire Williams Martinez, former Chapter President of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Design) Chicago. The exhibition will be on view from July 14 through September 1, 2017. The jurors commented that they will be looking for work in a range of media where the execution is well-considered: “We welcome traditional subject matter, but we are particularly interested in the expression of ideas—both representational and abstract. We look forward to seeing what themes may emerge.” SELECTS will feature up to ten artists. Applicants must be members. The entry fee is $40/artist and $25 for young artists (ages 25 and under). Full submission guidelines are available here. Deadline is June 27. All artists will be notified on June 30, 2017. For questions on eligibility, submission guidelines or the upcoming exhibition, please contact the Westport Arts Center at 203-222-7070.

The downtown streets of Ridgefield will once again come alive during Art Walk Ridgefield 2017.  More than 50 businesses, restaurants and cultural venues will showcase the work of over 70 artists in windows and on shop walls during this free, two-week festival, transforming the downtown area into a strolling art gallery. The Ridgefield Guild of Artists invites you to enter as an exhibiting artist in Art Walk Ridgefield, where the streets of downtown Ridgefield turn into a strolling art gallery. Art Walk Ridgefield kicks off on Friday, August 25, 5:00-‐8:00pm, with an artist opening reception in the stores and continues on Saturday, August 26 from noon to 4:00 pm. Accepted artists will be matched with participating merchants. This is a juried process. Accepted artists will be notified by July 14, 2017. Submit a maximum of 5 photocopy examples of recent work on one or two pages. These do not have to be actual printed photos but can be jpegs printed on paper. Per photo, please include: artist name, artwork dimensions and price per piece. These are for representation of your work and store matching purposes only and not necessarily the pieces you will submit or include in Art Walk. Drawings, paintings, works on paper, photography, digital art and sculpture will be accepted.
