WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Carla Goldberg is a mixed media artist whose multiple series of drawings, paintings and sculpture all approach the subject of water in motion. Hallmarks of her work include resin on transparent acrylic panels and the use of light and shadow projected onto the wall behind her artworks giving a definite sense of 3-dimentionality. Goldberg is an experimenter at heart, and her Seafoam Sculptural Drawings have been awarded numerous accolades. She recently moved from NY and now lives and works in Milford within view of the Long Island Sound which inspires her art. WEBSITE

B. (Barb) Fulton Jennes is the Inaugural Poet Laureate of Ridgefield, CT; author of "Blinded Birds"; widely published in journals and anthologies; poet-in-residence at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum; host of monthly CT Poetry Society workshop at Ridgefield Library; award-winning poet and educator. Missy Savard's works portray architectural studies and landscapes painted from locations along the eastern seaboard, New England and in Europe. She has focused her most recent oils and monotypes on landscapes as well as renderings of iconic buildings. The consistent theme in Savard’s work combines a sure sense of light and strong graphic understanding, capturing a quality of serenity. A longtime member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan and a member of the Wilson Avenue Loft Artists in Norwalk, Savard has exhibited extensively and has won numerous awards for her paintings. INSTAGRAM

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the ACE Awards. The purpose of these awards is to celebrate the passion for arts and culture across coastal Fairfield County, and to raise awareness of the quality and diversity of our region's arts and cultural offerings. Because of COVID, we had to cancel our 2021 ACE Awards Breakfast and so we are especially looking forward to the 2022 Awards, now sponsored for five years by the Daniel E. Offutt III Private Foundation Trust. Our 2022 Awards Breakfast will be held Wed. June 15, at the Norwalk Shore and Country Club. Our guests will include Jason Mancini, Executive Director, CT Humanities, Elizabeth Shapiro, Director of Arts, Preservation and Museums, CT Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD), and our keynote speaker will be David Lehman, Commissioner, DECD.

This month's "Spotlight" radio show on WPKN Independent Community Radio 89.5 FM explored folk and traditional arts practices across coastal Fairfield County. Speakers included Janet Evelyn, the “Folk & Traditional Arts Community Impact Coordinator" for coastal Fairfield County - a short-term position created and funded by Connecticut Cultural Heritage Arts Program (CCHAP) and the CT Office of the Arts (COA), Tamara Dimitri from CT Office of the Arts, and Kate Schramm, Director of CCHAP.  The Contemporary Art Network and six of its artists presented an Invitational Exhibit at FIRST STREET GALLERY in NYC. The exhibit featured selections from bodies of work from each artist including CAFC members Ellen Gordon, Lina Morielli, and Mary Newcomb as well as Bob Kuperman, Oli Kambeitz, Jyoti Desai, and Marina Shrady. All of the award-winning artists live and work in Connecticut and have shown their works regionally and nationally. LEARN MORE

Susan Fehlinger is one of five artists juried into the 2-1-2 Exhibition at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. She has nine new oil paintings in the show including “Blowin in the Wind” 30 x 40. The show will be on view at the Guild through February 27th. WEBSITE

Sonya Huber was this year’s recipient of Fairfield University's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Vision Award, in recognition of her “tireless effort to instill and inspire the teachings and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." In accepting the award she writes that "Making good trouble always feels, in the moment, very anxious and right at the same time, but impossible without co-conspirators.” In particular she gave tribute to Vanessa

Liles at PT Partners, Calabria Gale Heilmann and Gemeem Davis at BPT Gen Now, Shoran Waupatukuay Piper and the Golden Hill Paugussett tribe, and Maisa Tisdale of the Freeman Center. FACEBOOK  WEBSITE

Julie Leff is one of three artists in the exhibition "Assemblage" at FTC's Art/Place Gallery on view through March 27. This 56”x70” oil on canvas is called "October." WEBSITE

Lina Morielli is exhibiting at First Street Gallery in NYC through February 19. Gallery Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 am to 6 pm. Her mixed media works on paper and paintings are the result of over 300 preliminary drawings done at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. The work expresses chaotic yet delicately balanced worlds in which internalized despair erupts into explosively playful compositions. CAN WEBSITE  LINA'S WEBSITE

Steven Parton's "Little Boy Blue" is an oil on canvas 14" X 11." He enjoys the challenge of painting a child's portrait and is already considering his next portrait. He was recently interviewed by Miggs Burroughs for The Westport Library's Video Series, Artists in Residences, hosted by Carole Erger-Fass. WEBSITE VIDEO LINK

Barbara Ringer is currently in the curated virtual exhibition, “Noir,” presented by the Royal Academy of American Art, Brooklyn, NY on view through March13. She recently showed in the surrealism show “Unleashed” at the AHA Fine Arts Gallery, Brooklyn, NY with her mixed media piece, “Swallowing Hard.” (pictured here) WEBSITE RSOAA WEBSITE

Ruth Kalla Ungerer has a solo show called "Body of Work" at Bistro du Soleil restaurant in Westport. It opens on Sunday, February 20th, 4:00 - 6:00 pm and features her prints and collages from 2008-2022. The pictured print is a diptych called "Indigo Girls." It is a sugarlift aquatint printed a la poupee. Ruth is pleased to share her work with the larger community in a remarkable venue for food and art aficionados.

Lee Walther was featured in Easton Public Library in "Melange," a multi-media exhibition with a melange of works including her versatile, innovative and FUNctional one-of-a-kind ArtTables with interchangeable display inserts. Also on display: collaged sculptures, mixed media enhanced photos and mixed media mirrors/jewelry. Lee was also co-curator of the "Color Play" exhibit at the Bruce S. NOMINATE CT POET LAUREATE


CT Office of the Arts is processing nominations for CT State Poet Laureate on an ongoing basis and will invite nominated poets to submit an application for consideration. Any Connecticut citizen may nominate one (1) poet for the State Poet Laureate position, and a nominee may receive multiple nominators. Deadline for nominations is March 22.

PROPOSED COLLECTIVE TO UNITE POETS FROM FAIRFIELD CTY


Poets from Central Fairfield County may soon have a forum to share resources, programming, networks and their poetry. Barb Jennes, Poet Laureate of Ridgefield, is laying the groundwork for a regional collective entitled The Norwalk River Valley Poets Interested poets and poetry lovers are encouraged to email Barb Jennes.

ECOWORKS


As a creative reuse center, EcoWorks helps businesses reduce and reuse waste while providing educators, artists and other community members access to low-cost art supplies by recovering materials that were originally destined for disposal. In addition to selling scrap materials, EcoWorks offers a reBoutique gift shop of upcycled and repurposed goods made by local artisans as well as workshops and demonstrations.

This exhibition will commemorate Silvermine Art Center's many past achievements by looking forward. The Curator, Lilly Wei, is asking artists to submit (remarkable, original) projects in any medium, stylistic mode, or genre that reflect their vision of what that future might look like, how it might be manifested.

THE CHELSEA INTERNATIONAL FINE ART COMPETITION

Westport Library is calling visual artists to submit work to be featured on a first-of-its-kind Verso Records Compilation #1, an independent record label produced by the Library’s media resources and production hub, Verso Studios. On April 9, Westport Library will reveal the debut album - a compilation of emerging CT and tri-state area musicians/artists. A prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the artist whose work is chosen.

In celebration of Frederick Law Olmsted’s 200th birthday this year, PreservationConnecticut seeks photographs of Connecticut’s historic landscapes in the following categories: Color, Black & White, Olmsted Firm Design, and Smartphone images. Flexible in the definition of historic landscape for this contest, Preservation CT does insist that photos show how the landscape has historically been used and shaped by people.
