News & Opportunities for Individual Creatives in

Fairfield County CT

March 2024

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Mariya Rivera is a multi-media artist expressing an ongoing spiritual experience. For many years, she has worked nearly exclusively in oil paints, yet more recently has begun exploring encaustics. Drawing studies utilizing graphite, colored pencil, aquarelle pencil, and tall point allow Mariya to investigate her perception and the varied ways of documenting what’s in front of me. Watercolor, gouache, and soft or oil pastels provide other methods of mapping an image and preparing for an in-depth, “final” version. This process suspends time, discovers extra space…creates sanctuary as well as connection. Whatever my subject and medium, I manifest exuberance, mystery, and serenity.

CAFC NEWS

Women's History Month is a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of women! In the realm of arts and culture, Women's History Month provides an opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of women artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, actors, visual artists, and cultural leaders throughout history.

It's also a time to reflect on the challenges women have faced and continue to face in the arts and culture industries, including issues of representation, gender inequality, and barriers to entry. By acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of women in arts and culture, Women's History Month serves as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and the need for continued efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in these fields.

During Women's History Month, we will continue our social media campaign with Colorful Bridgeport this month we will highlight women artists and professionals in our region! If you're interested in personally celebrating women artists and creatives:

  • share event details organized to showcase the work of women artists, such as art exhibitions featuring female artists, film festivals highlighting movies directed by women, theatrical performances written or directed by women, and concerts featuring female musicians.

  • participate in educational programs and discussions that may focus on the impact of women on the arts

  • sponsorship of a CAFC membership for a woman artist in your network.

Thank you all for all that you do!
