Artspace New Haven, Thurs. July 12, 4:30-6:30pm
#UNLOAD is an arts-based initiative in Connecticut that seeks to drive consensus around the divisive issue of gun violence. Visit unloadusa.org to see events planned for 2018 to engage communities in dialogue on this issue. Currently, #UNLOAD, in partnership with The Fairfield University Art Museum, and the Guns In The Hands of Artists Foundation, is showing #UNLOAD: Guns in the Hands of Artists at the Fairfield University Art Museum, through Oct. 31.

Thursday, July 12, 4:30-6:30 pm, #UNLOAD is joining Artspace New Haven (50 Orange St)  for a "Knolling" performance event - a method of organizing related objects by arranging them either parallel to one another or at 90-degree angles. This event will be dealing with gun parts from a Connecticut Gun Buyback organized by the Unload Foundation Inc. Please register here.

After the Knolling, artists may pick a free gun part to transform into a piece of art, from drawings to poems to installations. Please register using the form below. Works will be displayed in an unjuried exhibition, #Unload: Pick Up the Pieces, at Ely Center of Contemporary Art (51 Trumbull St, New Haven) from October 11 to November 11, 2018.  To apply to exhibit in #Unload: Pick Up the Pieces, use the link https://www.elycenter.org/opencall-unload. The only requirement is that the artwork addresses our culture’s divided attitudes toward gun control, gun safety, gun reform, the Second Amendment, or recent events related to gun use, safety, and violence. Any artist can show up and collect a decommissioned and use it in their artwork. You just need to register here.
