Gamma Rho Initiates 32 Member Class
Gamma Rho's newest initiates in front of the PIKE house
Largest Class in 10 Years Joins the Ranks of Pi Kappa Alpha
After spending nine weeks learning the traditions of both Pi Kappa Alpha and the Gamma Rho Chapter, 32 young men, 28 freshman and 4 sophomores, were initiated as new members earlier this month. This class was Gamma Rho’s largest initiation class in ten years! The class features brothers from all across the country, with a significant part of the class hailing from our home state of Illinois, and features a wide variety of interests. Two varsity athletes (golf and tennis) and numerous club lacrosse, hockey, and ski team members make this class an athletic one. The new members are highly involved on campus, including everything from podcast production, consulting, and entrepreneurial clubs. The class demonstrates a diverse array of passions and backgrounds which make Pi Kappa Alpha a strong, well-rounded organization. As this academic year begins to come to a close, these new brothers have taken on key leadership roles and look to make a long lasting impact on the chapter.
PIKE Brothers During "Block 10" at Dance Marathon
Dance Marathon 2016 a Smashing Success
From the evening of March 4th, 2016, to the morning of March 6th, over 40 PIKE brothers, along with the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma, danced for 30 consecutive hours in Northwestern’s Dance Marathon. This year, the funds raised by DM went to Blessings in a Backpack, a charitable organization that provides weekend meals for kids who often only get to eat school lunches during the week, and to the Evanston Community Foundation, a nonprofit committed to supporting organizations in the Evanston community. All in all, the final fundraising total came to $1,201,216, a number only topped by 2014’s record-setting effort in the entire history of Dance Marathon. The Kappa/PIKE team raised $82,178, 103% of the 80 thousand dollar goal and good enough for third place in the overall team
competition. Leading the way for the team and raising the third most of any participant was Jack McCartney ('13), who ended up contributing an astounding $10,818. Garrett Matsuda ('16) spoke of his first Dance Marathon experience: “The best part was doing it all together, going the incredible highs and lows with your best friends. It's amazing because I know there is no other experience like it.” The Kappa/PIKE team will look to improve on this year’s total at Dance Marathon 2017.
