Next year is our 10th birthday (much more on that to come). And so you may think that 10 is the most important number for 2020. But it's not. This past year we worked in six countries, trained 35 groups to make BioSand Water Filters, purchased 15 brick-making machines for local communities, built over 20 water catchment tanks in training from Uganda to Congo, distributed soap to help fight an Ebola epidemic that has claimed over 2000 lives, and worked with local artisans to install MicroFlush Toilets across 4 regions of East Africa. Amongst other things. You might think that any of those numbers are the most important. But they're not. No, the most important number is one. One person. You. You can give one BioSand Water Filter that can help one family avoid waterborne disease. You can give one brick-making machine that builds schools and clinics, creating an essential foundation for the future. You can give one stove that drastically decreases respiratory illness and the threat of children falling into open fires. That's the power of one. One filter. One machine. One stove. One you. We need your help more than ever in 2020. The world is very different than 10 years ago. Water scarcity is increasing. Extreme climate events are displacing people while disrupting food and water supplies. Inequality is rising. Rights are being ignored. And all these changes are most impacting those people most marginalized, disadvantaged and frequently invisible in their own countries. Only one person can change the future for so many lives. That's you. When you act, we turn one into many. We turn dirty water into clean. We turn sickness into health. Together, let's turn 2020 into a year of hope and success. |
