Subject: Does Decision Authority Collapse Under Pressure?

Leaders at the top shouldn’t hold all the decision-making power. Some decisions belong in different levels of organizations based on hierarchy that are well-documented. But when real pressure hits, like global tariffs, AI disruption, regulatory shifts, or sudden market volatility, something subtle changes in how decisions actually move.

Authority doesn’t disappear in those moments; it simply begins to flow differently. Conversations stretch longer than they used to, escalations become more frequent, and leaders who are fully capable of acting start seeking additional confirmation from above.

Nothing feels dramatic or overt, but over time, the shift becomes visible in slower decisions, heavier executive involvement, and a quiet change in how power actually moves inside the organization.

This week I published a LinkedIn Newsletter and released a companion video exploring what sits underneath that shift: the conative layer of executive decision-making and why it may be the missing piece in how we design for speed and risk.

If you’re responsible for enterprise outcomes, I think this will resonate more than you expect.
