Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | September 2021

September 2021

Greetings to the alumni from all of us at ALERT!

We are about to move into our fall quarter and I wanted to get out a quick update on what is happening here, as well as a reminder of things yet to come between now and the end of the year.

First of all, as of today I am stepping down as the Director of ALERT and will be handing the responsibility off to Major Jesse Boulden. It has been a pleasure serving with you in this ministry and I look forward to continuing to work here in a support role, as well as exploring other opportunities for ministry as time and health allows. More details on the transition will be announced in the coming days. Please pray for the new leadership team as they navigate the transition and carry on the mission of “Forging extraordinary men who influence their world for Christ”.

In other ALERT news, next week I will be taking a group of nine guys from the CST unit on a three week tour. We’ll start with helping out with events in the Northwoods of upper Michigan for ten days, travel out to a father/son camp in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania for an extended weekend, and then back to Detroit, Michigan to help with flood relief cleanup under the direction of Samaritan's Purse. It’s an extended trip for sure, so we appreciate your prayers for safety while traveling, and more importantly, person to person interaction as we share and exemplify the gospel work in our lives.

Sergeant Major Moody will be taking our flight and EMT units to southern Louisiana to assist with cleanup from the recent hurricane, again under the direction of Samaritan’s Purse. Pray for their safety, as well as meaningful opportunities to share the gospel with homeowners.

Along with flight, EMT, and CST happening this quarter, we also have a Basic Training starting soon. Unit 65 starts September 23; please pray for the guys coming for training, as well as the cadre as they lead the men through Basic.
Finally, there are four opportunities I want to make sure you know about. Please consider joining us at the father/son camp in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, being held September 30-October 3rd. The camp is a tremendous opportunity to spend time with your sons and other dads. There is no more enjoyable, or affordable, camp anywhere in the U.S., especially one with as many opportunities to be intentional in ministering to your boys. You can find more information at fathersoncampeast.org or give me a call. You do not have to attend the entire weekend if time does not permit.

I also want to extend an offer to consider attending a Conquer Series weekend December 3-5, 2021 here in Big Sandy. As I’ve shared many times, its an excellent opportunity for you to understand the addictive nature of pornography through a dynamic video series, to mix it up with other dads and sons, and deal with an issue that is overtaking the church like a tsunami. I urge you to take this invitation seriously—especially if you or your son(s) have been struggling with this issue for months or even years. The cost for housing and meals is very affordable, and the material is invaluable. Please call me for more information. I’d recommend sons 14 and older attend, although we have had younger guys there with the approval of parents. This invite goes out to any ALERT guys, their friends, as well as Quest families and their contacts.

If you have a passion for mentoring at-risk young men, consider working for Hope Farm School in western Wisconsin. Go to hopefarmschool.org to check it out. We currently have one of our alumni there, and the director, Jeff Bird, is so impressed with him that he is looking for more of you guys! Put what you've learned at ALERT into practice and help others deepen their walk with Christ. If you have further questions feel free to give me a call.

Last, but certainly not least, we have ALERT Reunion 2022 happening here in Big Sandy on January 28-30, 2022. Please consider joining us for a weekend of fellowship, reconnecting with old friends, and good ALERT-style fun. Bring your wives and kids with you, as the weekend will be fun for all ages. More details on the schedule and program will be coming in the next few months, but mark your calendars now for that weekend. I hope to see all of you here at the reunion.
Blessings to all of you, and please keep in touch!

In Him,
Colonel Marv Behr
