Subject: ALERT Alumni | Spring Update

April 2018

Greetings to our alumni:

It’s definitely springtime here in Texas but from what I’ve followed in weather reports it may be some of you are enjoying a second – and likely final blast of winter up north. I don’t envy those that have to deal with the mess on the roads and such, but as a northerner, a return to the upper Midwest for summer and fall programming is still very attractive compared with the heat and humidity many of you are familiar with down here.

As I write we have 24 guys in Basic training with the twelve hour hike next up on this week’s schedule. Pray for strength for the recruits and safety as they travel the road through the night.

Battalion training continues with our EMT’s working through an online course and upcoming skills training and testing in Dallas. The online program was necessary because of the inability to get appropriate paperwork filed locally with hospitals that are in transition with mergers. We’re hoping to return to more traditional training in the fall. Our Mobile Response Team completed a tour in Beaumont, TX working with Operation Blessing for over a week and have more travel and service trips planned for the month of May.

Last weekend was our second Alumni Retreat, with eight of us participating in a “Conquer Series Conference” in Waynesburg, PA. It was a great time of learning and fellowship and I’m looking forward to doing more of these around the country. The material is outstanding. And speaking of Waynesburg, I’d like to encourage you guys to attend one or more of the camps held there in the coming months that are in part staffed with ALERT guys. You can find out more information at www.fathersoncampeast.org

  • July 5-8: Father/Son Camp East. A great weekend of teaching and activities that include archery, shooting, Frisbee golf, rappelling, a zip line and a lot of other stuff. It’s a great time to get together for fellowship. Norm Wakefield is the keynote speaker and the messages are powerful.
  • Father/Daughter Camp for you dads that are blessed with young ladies. Held July 26-29, 2018.
  • High Impact Retreat: Friday evening through Saturday night, Sept 14-15. We’re showing The Conquer Series for men struggling with pornography or looking for tools to work with their older sons or others within your church.
  • Father/Son Camp East, fall camp, October 4-7, 2018 (see above).
Finally continue to pray that God would touch the lives of young men and lead them to enroll in ALERT training. Consider sponsoring someone or give us a call on how you can help in getting the word out.

God bless and have a great week.
