Subject: ALERT Alumni | August Update

Greetings to our Alumni:

Here is an August update:
ERT just returned from a week’s deployment in Wisconsin helping with flood relief work alongside Samaritan’s Purse. It was another great week and I was impressed on how much the guys were engaged in all aspects – taking initiative on the job, volunteering in the dining hall, sharing publicly in the large group setting, singing at meals and for the homeowners and the list goes on. Once again they represented ALERT well and made a huge impact. It was great to unite with other volunteers for one overall purpose: to see the gospel go forth using recovery work as the door of opportunity. SP has a motto that is worth repeating: “The quality of our work is the platform of our witness.” How important it is to do all work as unto the Lord and not unto ourselves for our own glory. There are still about ten days of work to be done in Wisconsin and a second site opened up in Northern Illinois if any of you are interested in picking up the torch and volunteering a few days.

In other news:
  • ERT is now on their Miami dive trip. Pray for their safety and opportunities to minister along the way. Major Pendergast and Capt. Harman are overseeing the training.
  • Our Leadership class, led by Capt. Jesse Boulden is on their Washington D.C. tour. This trip is impactful and a great opportunity to get beyond the white fences to see past and present history first hand.
  • Aviation: As I mentioned in a previous letter we are getting our flight program “off the ground” this fall with a six week session and several instructors coming on board to lead the charge. The fall class is fairly full but if you are at all interested in more info for future training give us a call for details. We are running an accelerated class to reduce the cost of housing and tuition, allowing you to put more funds toward actual flying.
  • Next Basic starts September 8th. If you know of someone interested in attending please bump them now and encourage them to apply. We are offering a recruiting bonus of $100 to anyone that is designated as the one who recruited them for Basic.
  • We are offering three advanced training classes this fall: Diving, EMT and a Mobile Response Team option for guys interested in service and travel around the country. Please contact us immediately if you are planning on attending any one of them.

Job opportunities:
  • Tradesman Drywall in Pennsylvania is looking for a manager to oversee work sites. They are willing to train the right person in the sheetrock business and salary is negotiable. I’d encourage any of you looking for “the next thing” to seriously consider this career opportunity. I’ve personally met with these guys and it is a great, growing company run by believers that would be a good fit for many of you.
  • I’ve also been contacted by guys looking for landscape help as well as a local agency looking for EMT’s to help with transfers in the Longview area. Call for more info.
  • The City of Orange, Texas is looking for applicants for their fire department. Please Contact Linda Harrison at 409-883-1030.

ALERT retreat:
Join us in Green Lake, Wisconsin on the weekend of October 20-22 for a great time of fellowship and interaction together as we use “The Conquer Series” videos to address issues related to moral battles. Space is limited and cost is very affordable which translated means donation only. (What a deal eh?) Please respond and let me know if you’re seriously interested in coming so I can plan accordingly. Let’s hear from some guys in the upper Midwest on this one! More retreats are planned around the country if interest is high.

Prayer requests:
  • Ongoing prayers for Simeon Wallace as he adjusts to Crohn’s disease.
  • Increased enrollment in ALERT program as well as wisdom in future planning for the overall direction of this ship.
  • The Zach Munger family as they adjust to loss of wife and mother. Pray for Nathan and Hannah Blikstad as well as they come alongside to help with childcare. They also are looking for a mother’s helper who could assist in the care of the kids during the day.

Keep in touch guys. Recently I received an unexpected phone call from a guy back in Unit 24. It was really an encouragement to me to visit and get caught up. So, go ahead. Make my day! Give me a call or shoot me an email with a family update, or, if you have a prayer need, send it my way.

God Bless,
