The didgeridoo is an indigenous Australian instrument traditionally played at ceremonies. A termite hollowed tree is used to amplify the breath and voice of the player, often imitating sounds of animals and nature. The vibration of the didgeridoo is deeply calming, meditative, and sometimes even trance-inducing. It feels essentially like one big continuous OM. Didgeridoo playing can help with resolving sleep apnea and snoring, cultivates deeper breathing, calms the mind, and is great fun!

Every session will begin with a series of yogic breathing exercises (pranayama) in order to expand breath capacity and consciously connect to the principles of a healthy breath pattern. Building on a deep, full breath, we’ll explore the many techniques used to create complex music on the didge.

You will learn:
• yogic breathing techniques
• warm-up exercises for didgeridoo playing
• how to create the basic drone
• how to modulate the drone
• using the voice, making animal sounds
• basic rhythms
• circular breathing step by step
• how to use didgeridoo playing as a meditation practice
• how to start a personal daily practice

In this video, Didge Project's Jerry Walsh demonstrates how to play 3 basic beatboxing rhythms for the didgeridoo. What's great about these rhythms is that they do not require circular breathing, so even if you haven't mastered circular breathing yet, you can pick up the instrument right away and begin to play.

HEART & MIND FESTIVAL PRESENTS
SAT., DEC. 15
In 1970, over 40 orcas were brutally captured from the Salish Sea in Northwest Washington and taken to marine parks around the world. During that capture, at least five of the orcas were killed. Tokitae, who was just three years old at the time of capture, is the sole survivor, living alone in a small and isolated tank at Miami Seaquarium where she has been performing acts for food rewards for 48 years. Tokitae has not seen another orca since 1980. The Lummi Nation intend to change this by returning her to her home pod at the Eastsound, Orcas Island. Bring Tokitae Home!

This event will raise funds to support the Lummi Nation’s plight to return Tokitae to the Salish Sea. Featuring Taino Elder Manuel Rufino, Grandmother Clara Soaring Hawk of the Deer Clan, Theresa Bear Fox, Kurt Russo, Peia, Nickodemus, Geraldine Patrick Encina, and Dream Seed.

DECEMBER 15-19
A powerful voice in the rising global community of people who are committed to restoring a balanced relationship with the Earth, PEIA expresses her holistic vision and passion through her music, educational workshops and advocacy for social and environmental rights groups.

Peia’s revolving collaborative ensemble weaves in rich vocal harmonies, driving percussion, and intricate guitar work, together with her own instrumentation on charangon and harmonium to create lush, organic soundscapes. Her mesmerizing performances offer authentic re-imaginings of traditional musical treasures, along with a stunning repertoire of her own original songs.
Peia's New York City residency includes the following events:

Glen Velez is truly a master of the frame drum and he is also an excellent teacher of rhythms for musicians of all levels. I think everyone had a blast taking his workshop at Tribal Rhythms Gathering 2018 which had us singing vocal rhythms while stepping, clapping, shaking rattles and playing frame drums.
Airdidge is the first carbon fiber telescoping didgeridoo designed for musicians on the go. With a weight of 1.2 lbs and a packed length of 14.57 inches, this instrument is the ideal companion for traveling and hiking. Airdidge fits in any backpack and plays in 3 keys: Bb (fully extended), C# (with smallest tube pushed in, and E (with end piece removed). Great for all levels of didgeridoo players, from beginners to advanced.
In this demonstration of the RAV Vast B Celtic Minor Double Ding, AJ Block demonstrates different chord progressions that can be played. This lesson can also be applied to any other handpan or RAV drum. What does "double ding" mean? Watch the video and find out.

DidgeProject.com
Didge Project is a blog, youtube channel, series of courses and events, instrument store and a collective of musicians who want to help you use music as a tool for uplifting yourself and others around you.

On our site you will find tips and tutorials to help you become a better musician, didgeridoo lessons, instrument features and reviews, and reports on the latest scientific research and spiritual discoveries merging through the medium of sound.

When we began in 2008 our main focus was on teaching how to play the didgeridoo, a wind instrument originating in aboriginal Australia and also said to be present in ancient Mayan times. After working with countless people it became apparent that most musicians play multiple instruments and that we have the community resources to help all musicians get better results. While we still provide didgeridoo lessons, classes and programs, our focus is to provide tutorials for music and instruments from all around the world.
