RAV Vast Humayun & The Chromatic Mallet Harp meet Electric Guitar & Electric Bass in our new videos
Check out these great instruments in these live jam sessions

Welcome to the Didge Project newsletter!

Recently I got to play some super cool instruments, the Chromatic Mallet Harp and the RAV G Humayun, with two excellent musicians, Adrian DiMatteo and Mike Fisher on Electric Guitar and Bass. These videos were a joy to make as we featured these exciting new instruments in a live jam session context.

The Chromatic Mallet Harp has seriously become my go to instrument when playing music with friends. I personally prefer the Chromatic Mallet Harp over any handpan, because it has all 12 tones from the western musical scale. So I'm getting that really sweet Mallet Harp sound but I can play along with almost any chord changes and jump in with a lot of different songs. Of course, I have a background in piano playing and music theory, so that really helps and makes this instrument perfectly suited to my skill set. Listen to our new Chromatic Mallet Harp track, "Summer Joy" on our SoundCloud page.

The RAV G Humayun, however, is a whole different animal. It's got this really sweet middle-eastern sound and the vibe it creates is so different than any music I have ever played. It's like I am automatically thrown into a mystical sonic mood and I can only imagine how many possibilities there are with this instrument. Check out the chart below for the full overview of the RAV G Humayun scale.

Thanks for tuning in and looking forward to seeing you soon!

From the RAV Vast makers: 'The sound of the Humayun RAV Vast has a sweet and exotic taste like fruit sherbet that you drink in the late warm evening somewhere in the Middle-East. This scale refers to the music tradition of Azerbaijan mughams and has a high-pitched sonorous voice. After the long and accurate review of many mugam modes, we picked up Humayun to create another RAV steel tongue drum scale.

'The word “humayun” means a bird of paradise in Turkish mythology and is translated as good fortune and luck. This scale is great for creating tender and lyric melodies.'

Didge Project is a blog, youtube channel, series of courses and events, instrument store and a collective of musicians who want to help you use music as a tool for uplifting yourself and others around you.

On our site you will find tips and tutorials to help you become a better musician, didgeridoo lessons, instrument features and reviews, and reports on the latest scientific research and spiritual discoveries merging through the medium of sound.

When we began in 2008 our main focus was on teaching how to play the didgeridoo, a wind instrument originating in aboriginal Australia and also said to be present in ancient Mayan times. After working with countless people it became apparent that most musicians play multiple instruments and that we have the community resources to help all musicians get better results. While we still provide didgeridoo lessons, classes and programs, our focus is to provide tutorials for music and instruments from all around the world.
