This bamboo overtone flute from the Andes is easy to play, sounds amazing, and hits a range of harmonics.
Featured in our recent live looping video with Jerry Walsh, the Flute of the Ancestors, or Abuelo Flute, is a traditional Andean-style bamboo overtone flute popularized by master Andean flute player Tito La Rosa.

La Rosa says, "the flute of the ancestors gives you strength to elevate yourself. It is not simply a flute; it is a staff of power. It can accompany your dance, remind you of your origins and also make sound. It’s characteristic is to produce harmonics over a fundamental sound. Over this fundamental sound it creates harmonics upward, but it always returns to the mother sound [the tonic] which is found in the middle, below and also above. There may be 5, 6 or occasionally 7 harmonics. This is called the Flute of the Grandfathers because it is played by the elder people of the community."

To celebrate the release of The Overtone Throat Singing Course, Jerry Walsh put together this live looping set using nothing more than a loop station, his voice and acoustic instruments.
Group classes and private lessons are available for those who purchase the Overtone Throat Singing Course with Jerry Walsh
The Overtone Throat Singing Coursea 2-hour instructional video with worksheets led by our very own Jerry Walsh is now available! Jerry has been studying throat singing from many different traditions for more than 10 years and brings a wealth of knowledge to this art form.

DidgeProject.com
Didge Project is a blog, youtube channel, series of courses and events, instrument store and a collective of musicians who want to help you use music as a tool for uplifting yourself and others around you.

On our site you will find tips and tutorials to help you become a better musician, didgeridoo lessons, instrument features and reviews, and reports on the latest scientific research and spiritual discoveries merging through the medium of sound.

When we began in 2008 our main focus was on teaching how to play the didgeridoo, a wind instrument originating in aboriginal Australia and also said to be present in ancient Mayan times. After working with countless people it became apparent that most musicians play multiple instruments and that we have the community resources to help all musicians get better results. While we still provide didgeridoo lessons, classes and programs, our focus is to provide tutorials for music and instruments from all around the world.
