Many places around the globe are experiencing record-breaking temperatures. Though there are mixed opinions surrounding the cause of these high temps, the fact remains it’s one of the hottest times to be alive - or at least in recorded history.
Prolonged exposure to the heat can be dangerous, particularly for the very young, the elderly, and those with underlying medical conditions like Type 1 Diabetes and heart disease. But that doesn’t mean you and your family can’t still have fun. In fact, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the hot months in a safe way that everyone will love.
The Movies: Theaters are an excellent respite from the heat. They’re dark, air-conditioned, and you can spend a few hours being entertained. Oftentimes, especially during the summer months, a lot of theaters will run special discounts on certain days, making them more affordable - especially if you have a large family.
The Pool: An obvious choice, but when the temps are sweltering, pool water can very quickly turn to bath water, and that’s anything but refreshing. Instead, look for indoor pools at your local Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, gyms, or hotels. You may be able to purchase a day pass, or you might even want to buy a membership so you can enjoy it over and over.
Escape Rooms: This is a great indoor activity to encourage teamwork while having a lot of fun! Escape rooms come in all sorts of themes and difficulty levels so that you can pick the right one for you and your family.
The Library: A great way to escape the hot weather is by visiting your local library! Not only can you and your family spend time picking out books and movies, but you can also take advantage of the quiet (and cool!) reading space and high-speed internet. They also offer free programs and events for all ages. |
