October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Why You Should Care

  • Did you know that as a Black woman, you are more likely to die from breast cancer than a white woman?

  • Did you know that, according to the Cancer Action Network, the incidence among white women has generally stabilized in the past few years, yet, the incidence among African American women continues to rise?

  • Did you know that you are more likely to be diagnosed with an advanced form of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC)?

We don’t say this to scare you. We say this to make you aware of this potential risk to your health - and to encourage you to get regular mammograms, pay attention to changes in your body, and advocate for quality healthcare. Early detection is one of the best defenses against breast cancer - particularly with aggressive forms, like TNBC.
