Subject: New Camera In Botswana!🦓

A Lifeline in the Wild – and a Front-Row Seat Just for You!

We’re excited to announce the launch of Africam’s brand-new live cam in partnership with Explore.org - streaming straight from the heart of Botswana’s Makgadikgadi region at Camelthorn Farmstead!

In Botswana’s breathtaking Makgadikgadi region, climate change and prolonged drought have pushed wildlife to the edge. In 2024, the country experienced its driest wet season in 40 years, with scorching temperatures and almost no rain. Natural water sources dried up, leaving animals dangerously dehydrated and dying.

The remarkable couple from Camelthorn farmstead began pumping water from their private farmstead into the parched Boteti River. But with hundreds of animals in desperate need, Animal Survival International (ASI) stepped in - installing a solar-powered pump, seven solar panels, and extended pipelines to deliver over 16,000 gallons (60,000 litres) of water every day.

Plans are underway to double this life-saving effort with a new borehole and accessible troughs to support even more wildlife.

📸 And now, you can watch it all unfold live on Africam!

See the Magic of the Wild:
Each year, thousands of zebras migrate over 300 km from the Okavango Delta to drink from this vital waterhole. Alongside them come elephants, lions, hippos, wildebeest, giraffes, crocodiles, and many more species drawn to this oasis in the dry season.

SafariSnaps Tip: When to Use the “LBJ” Tag

If you’ve ever come across a small, brownish bird that’s tricky to identify, you might be looking at an LBJ—a Little Brown Job. This term is widely used to describe birds like sparrows, warblers, weavers, wagtails, and pipits - all small, generally brown birds that are often difficult to tell apart.

Use the “LBJ” tag only for these types of birds.

Don’t use “LBJ” for:

  • Pigeons or doves → use “Pigeon/Dove species”

  • Birds of prey → choose the relevant raptor tag

  • Waterbirds or large birds that are simply unidentifiable → try to tag by type or leave untagged if unsure

Happy snapping!
