September Prayer Requests

Dear friends of AFC,

Recently an article titled “When All Your Dreams Come True” got me reflecting: we all tend to overestimate how good we will feel when our “dreams come true.” However almost all the time, when we finally achieve that dream, we feel duped because it failed to deliver what we thought it promised. As Ravi Zacharias has once said, “The loneliest moment in life is when you receive that which you thought was the ultimate, and it lets you down.” God created us in such a way that our capacity for joy is so large that it can only be filled by himself. He gave us other things for our enjoyment, but as Augustine prayed, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” Our ultimate satisfaction can only be found in God himself.

Early Christianity battled to distinguish its own prayer life from pagan rituals. The apostles strived to uphold the centrality of prayer is to pursue God instead of our selfish accomplishments. Therefore let us not be swayed into the prosperity gospel type of prayer but focus on God’s promises and glory.

Campus Ministry

Long Island, NY -- Please pray for the connection with new students and for the welcome party scheduled for Sept. 10. Also, pray for the development of the friendship with the coworker in the Student Association of LIU for the spreading of the Gospel.

Franklin & Marshall College & Millersville University, PA -- Praise God that our summer Bible study series has concluded with the last few times led by students themselves. Pray that some of these students will be willing to take on leadership responsibilities in the campus fellowship as the new semester starts. Pray that the Agape Christian fellowship will be successfully registered as a campus organization this semester. Also, please pray for the preparations for the fall semester campus ministry since a record number of new students has arrived from China at F&M for freshmen orientation.

Indianapolis, IN -- Pray for AFC staff involved in the welcome party on Sept. 2 organized by IU Bloomington Fellowship. Please continue to pray for the Youth Fellowship in the Midwest region to be held at the end of October. Pray that many will respond to the invitation to attend.

University of Nebraska at Lincoln, NE -- Pray for the Chinese Students and Scholars Fellowship in Nebraska. Pray for growth and wisdom for the new coworkers who have recently become Christians. Also, pray that the coworker training will go smoothly.

Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD --Please pray for our new fellowship plan since the Bible study type has been changed to cell group type. Pray that God will give us more vision and wisdom to reach this generation.

Raleigh, NC -- Pray for the disciple training for the fall semester. Pray for God’s wisdom and strength as we seek to reach these young generations.

College Station, Texas A&M University -- Please continue to pray for our student and visiting scholarship fellowship since their English Bible study will be led by native English speakers. Pray that in response to our need, several native English speakers from the American congregation will respond to the calling and volunteer to lead the Bible study.

San Antonio, TX -- Please pray for the follow-up of the new students & scholars and for the fourth coworker training for campus outreach groups.

San Diego State University, CA -- Pray that our SDSU fellowship and church coworkers will be united in the ministry. Also, please pray for God's direction to help the SDSU visiting scholars’ ministry.

Irvine University of California -- Pray for the spiritual growth of young Christians in the UCI Morning Star Fellowship. May the Lord provide more coworkers to become involved in the discipleship program.

Chinese Mission Convention

CMC 2016 - Baltimore, MD. Praise the Lord! We have broken through the 170 mark for registration, with 8 exhibit organizations. The brochure should have reached the churches, and we are getting some requests for more. Pray for the WeChat invitation that will go out soon. Also pray that these would point people to the website and from the website to registration.

CMC West - 2017 Los Angeles, CA. Please pray that we can finalize the poster design and the preview of the promotion video. Pray that our Website Manager at GCCI can make the connection with an outside website company which will be able to help us design a CMC West website.

CMC West - 2017 Los Angeles, CA. Please pray for the plan to send a prayer flyer mailing to potential participating churches in the West Coast. Pray for the first WebEx Prayer meeting on Sept. 22. Pray for good participation from partner churches, seminaries, and organizations. Pray that more people will sign up to pray regularly for CMC West 2017.

CMC South - 2018 Houston, TX. Pray for the committee members as they add possible speakers and themes to the Google.doc brainstorming process. May the Lord plant His plans in our hearts and make us one for His kingdom. Also, please pray for the next Executive Steering Team meeting on Sept. 6.

Discipleship, Training and Conference Ministry

Pray for the upcoming discipleship training in EFCLA on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Pray that God will move brothers and sisters to attend. Pray for the planning of training events. Pray that the speakers will communicate their decisions to us and that the churches can let us know if they would like to co-sponsor the events.

Praise the Lord that our associate staff is helping with the subtitle editing of the videos for AFC online campus training. Please pray that we can launch the registration soon.

Pray for the training planning for year 2017.

Literature Ministry

Chinese Resource Ministry (CRM) -- Please pray for the multiple publication projects. Pray for God to continue leading and providing for all those involved in translation, editing, and design. Pray for wisdom for our CRM team as we decide on new publication projects.

Chinese Resource Ministry (CRM) -- As many students officially begin classes and other university activities, pray that many will decide to visit campus fellowships and Bible studies. Pray that many students will receive outreach packs or evangelistic books/booklets.

Pray for the high quality manuscripts invited by Ambassadors Magazine (AM). Pray for the time and inspiration from the pastors and elders to become involved in the literature service of AM. And please pray for AM to win more and more young overseas readers through its electronization approach.

Please continue praying for the AFC Bookstore, AM, and CRM literature teams, as they support campus, training, and mission ministries.

Others

Administration and Finance -- Please continue to pray for the construction of the Guest Lodge. The construction is scheduled to end in December 2016. Also, please pray for the preparation for the management of the lodge, the hiring of personnel, and reservation software.

Administration and Finance -- Please continue to pray that our HQ staff can quickly learn how to use the software effectively.

Board -- Please continue to pray for the ministry and service of Board members.

Donors and Volunteers -- Please pray for AFC donors and volunteers who support and partner with AFC ministries generously and faithfully.
