HEALTHFUL LIFE BLOG HIGHLIGHT
Can the Impossible Burger Possibly Be Good For You?

There is an inherent conflict with the impossible burger. We’ve been told that plant based diets are healthy but that processed foods are unhealthy. The impossible burger is both processed and plant based, so is it worth adding to your grocery list?

The Short Answer: No

Why?

Impossible burger has the same calories but more sodium than meat

The Impossible Burger patty has 240 calories while a regular beef patty from Burger also has 240 calories.
5 Steps to Keep Your Healthful Life on Track During Holiday Party Season

1. Be prepared when you go to a holiday event that will be flush with unhealthy foods. Eat beforehand or if you can't bring something healthy with you.

Have time to prepare? Bring a high fiber lentil salad that will keep you full.

Less time? Stop at any local supermarket and pick up Honey Smoked Salmon from the Honey Smoked Fish Co. Just open and Serve!

2. Saving your appetite for a party, especially one that is late in the day, is a dance with disaster. Remember to honor your hunger. An intense hunger, that happens after skipping meals or snacks to "save calories" for later, may actually trigger overeating later on.

3. Bring a beverage that is low in sugar to have instead of or at least alongside one adult beverage.

Combine the following:
  • soda water
  • pomegranate seeds
  • lemon, lime, or orange slices
  • ice
4. Hold your mock-tail in the hand you would normally eat finger foods with and move away from the buffet table or the bar.

5. Use a dessert sized plate instead of a dinner plate to downsize your portions without feeling like you're depriving yourself.
DR. ABBY APPROVED RECIPE
Black Bean Burger

Black beans are high in protein and fiber. Also, the iron, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, and zinc in black beans build and maintain bone structure and strength.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup of breadcrumbs, Gluten Free? Use Panko
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp of ground coriander
2 cans of black beans
1/4 cup of olive oil mayo
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black ground pepper
2 stalks of celery, finely chopped
Green leaf lettuce
Tomatoes

Directions:

Step 1: In a food processor, pulse breadcrumbs, cumin, coriander, and 2/3 of beans, add 2 tablespoons of the mayo and salt and pepper.

Step 2: Transfer to a large bowl and add celery and remaining whole black beans *after you rinse of course :)

Step 3. Form 4 patties and place in a skillet on medium heat. Cook for 10-12 minutes on both sides, turning once.

Step 4: Remove and serve with tomato and lettuce and the remaining 2 tablespoons of mayo.
