Subject: ADFF:ONLINE 2024

March 4, 2024

Thank you for patiently waiting for news about ADFF:ONLINE. This year we have a slightly new plan of action. ADFF:ONLINE will take place from April to August 2024. Every two weeks, we will offer 1-2 films from the 2023/24 season.

Once the films are available, you will be able to watch them anytime you want in the 12-day viewing period. It will always start on a Wednesday and end 12 days later on a Sunday. Most films will include bonus content including Q&As, special shorts, and more.

Each film will cost $6. You will also be able to easily send any film as a gift to someone in the US or Canada. If you're a fan of ADFF films, please consider sharing the films with your friends. This will go a long way to help us keep the cost of the online screenings affordable.

We are also offering early bird ticket packages of 5 tickets ($25) or 10 tickets ($45). This is the most cost-effective way to see ADFF films online. Don't wait – these ticket packages must be purchased before April 3.

ADFF:ONLINE Session 1 – April 3-14

The first round consists of two great films that feature legendary architects from South Asia, B.V. Doshi and Geoffrey Bawa. ADFF is working on bringing the festival to Mumbai and other cities in India, so stay tuned for more info about ADFF:MUMBAI.

The Promise: Architect B.V. Doshi

2023 / 90 min / Germany

Director: Jan Schmidt-Garre

Balkrishna Doshi, one of India’s most influential 20th-century architects, passed away in 2023 at 95 years old. The Promise provides audiences with the gift of getting to know Doshi, a soft-spoken humanist with distinctly modern designs.

The Genius of the Place: The Life and Work of Geoffrey Bawa

2023 / 80 min / Sri Lanka

Director: Afdhel Aziz

Director Afdhel Aziz introduces us to five of Geoffrey Bawa’s projects through his own personal connection to the work. We encounter an ocean fortress, a jungle palace, groundbreaking private homes, and the country estate where Bawa’s ashes are buried.

ADFF:ONLINE Session 2 – April 17-28

The second selection of films is all about Mies van der Rohe. We have one film from our 2023/24 season, The Mies van der Rohes, which focuses on Mies' personal life as seen through the eyes of his eldest daughter Georgia. The other film is Regular or Super: Views on Mies van der Rohe. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this film and it stands the test of time. Taken together, the films show you both the personal and professional sides of a titan in 20th-century architecture.
